Marine running for father's seat By Michele Clock UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER
April 19, 2008
Congressional hopeful Duncan D. Hunter has raised more than double the contributions of his nearest opponent in the race to replace his father, longtime U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine. Campaign finance reports filed this week show Duncan D. Hunter, 31, a Marine captain, collected $278,816 in the first three months of 2008, far more than any of the other candidates. He has collected a total of $503,132 and had $263,253 in cash on hand as of March 31, when the reporting period closed.
Hunter, a Republican, is one of seven candidates seeking the party's nomination June 3 in the 52nd Congressional District, which covers much of East County and northeastern San Diego County. It is one of two open congressional seats in the state for the June primary.
While the district is heavily Republican, Democratic candidate Mike Lumpkin, 43, raised the second-highest amount of money during the first quarter of 2008. Lumpkin, a retired Navy SEAL commander, raised $87,377 in the quarter, for a total of $163,071.
The candidate with the second-highest total donations was Republican Bob Watkins, 65, who collected $201,283 and lent his campaign $100,000. Watkins, a businessman and president of the San Diego County Board of Education, collected $79,269 during the first quarter of 2008, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. Republican Brian Jones, 39, a Santee councilman, raised $28,344 during the first quarter of the year for a total of $160,203.
Democrat Vickie Butcher, 66, a nonprofit executive and former El Cajon planning commissioner, reported collecting $18,108, for a total of $37,243.
Republican Rick L. Powell, 60, a retired U.S. Customs Service supervisory special agent, and Libertarian Michael Benoit, 57, a small-business owner, did not file campaign finance reports by Tuesday's electronic filing deadline.
Candidates are not required to file the reports unless they've raised or spent more than $5,000, said George Smaragdis, a spokesman for the commission. Candidates can file their reports by mail if they are raising and spending less than $50,000, Smaragdis said.

“Duncan D. Hunter, 31, a Marine captain”

US Constitution, Article II, Section 1
“No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years,...”
2012 - 2008 = 4 years.
31 + 4 = 35.
Maybe McCain will tap Duncan to be his VEEP Running Mate. Whatcha think? Yes? No? Maybe?
Duncan D’s ineligible, for four more years.
Duncan Hunter Sr as a running mate, would win McCain FReepers, and Reagan Democrats.
In other words: The Whitehouse.
Maybe Duncan’s great work converted them?
Wrong. I live in Duncan’s district, I voted for
Duncan and will vote for his son...any Iraq vet
that runs for Congress deserves a good look...hell,
they are putting up with a lot of guff from the
media, besides the rats they are eliminating...I
respect each and every individual in out Military
today. Democrats in our District??..probably some,
but I don’t know any...and have lived here..56 yrs. JK
Political office should not be conveyed by hereditary succession. We fought a war over that.
Hope he wins. Who knows? He may be the next Governor of CA.
Any chance he will lose the primary?
Where are you getting that from?
“Duncan Ds ineligible, for four more years.
Where are you getting that from?”

I was referring, to the US Presidency... :)

That will be left up to those voters but I do remember a couple of GOP stalwarts who retired recently and their sons thought they would inherit the postion only to be rejected by the voters.....
