By default, then, any enemy willing to enter into a protracted war against US interests is going to win automatically. Somehow that doesn’t seem like a good viable plan to me.

If a war is worth entering, it should be fought...not used as a pit of attrition for US soldiers and taxpayer money. The “protracted” warfare concept should be banned, at least as far as the USA is concerned. Because of it, the Islamofascists, and other oppressive, rogue, and communist nations have little respect for US resolve when it comes to military force and the use of it. Viet Nam was the crowning example of that horror story. I had hoped we would never again see a “pussy foot” politician-run war. I know, I was there. Viet Nam could have been won in a relatively short period of time, and without the loss of 50,000 lives...which only served to suit political objectives, and not the objective of the war.
Let us hope that this kind of scenario does not plague our nation again, and the world comes again to know the US is not playing political games, when it comes to the use of military power.

The nasty little man is not to be believed, and is probably better off hanged. But he does raise some interesting points.
So far in the prosecution of the War in Iraq the West has managed to knock over a pro-Sunni government (thus by definition pro al Qaeda) and put in its place a democratic government that is likely to side with Iran, given half the chance.
Why don’t we instead partition Iraq into three: the top bit goes to the Kurds, the middle bit goes to the Sunnis (it’s all desert anyway, and they are used to that) and the bottom bit goes to a new Iran once we have invaded, knocked over their government, hanged Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his forty thieves, and re-established the house of Shah.
That to me, sounds like a great plan.

This would require quite a bit more national resolve than we have seen from the American people and their presidents for quite some time — certainly not in my lifetime anyway. Not even during Reagan’s administration was there the national resolve that would be necessary to drive this thru. Truman and Eisenhower would be the last presidents of a country willing to wage decisive warfare.
Disappointing, actually: I thought George W Bush might just have had the right stuff — he probably did. The missing bit was roughly 50% of America who didn’t.
There’s nothing wrong the the US Armed Forces in this regard: it comes to a question of capturing the national will to fight. I would have hoped that after suffering 4,000 civilian deaths needlessly on 9/11 at the hands of the enemy, that would have been more than sufficient to catalyze the Nation. Evidently not.

Yes, I agree and a good post sir. This society has more interest in “feeling good” about themselves and things, is far too self-absorbed. The focus on our country, our principles and core values, has become very secondary especially to the socialist-educated young folks. We have some hard times ahead, that will only be rectified by hard lessons which a generation must learn at GREAT cost to America and all the things our generation respects and loves about this country and its heritage.
It IS a great plan. Hence Pelosi and her band of RATthugs won’t let it come to fruition.
