Family and friends waited in anticipation at Volk Field Saturday to welcome home the troops of the Wisconsin National Guard Troop E, 105th Cavalry. Roschelle Easterday, wife of Troop 1SG Paul Easterday, can't wait to see her husband, who's been gone almost a year fighting in Iraq. "We're pretty excited to see each other. It's been a long time and the rest of his family's here as well and we're pretty excited," says Easterday.
Soldiers from the Troop E, 105th Cavalry saw significant action while stationed in Iraq, which made some family members nervious at times. "If I don't get in touch with him and don't talk to him on a regular basis, it gets kind of nerve-racking and that I know that he's out on a mission," says Jamie Dewitt, mother of Sean Harschutz, a soldier returning home to Onalaska.
When the troops arrived back in Wisconsin, they were greeted by their biggest fans. "It's great to be back in Wisconsin. I really appreciate the support, everybody's here, really emotional to come back and see everybody again. It's been a long time and it's great to be back," says 1SG Paul Easterday from Galesville.
Jamie Dewitt aslo told NewsChannel 8: "It's very exciting to see him [Sean] come home, very exciting. It's just a ton of relief to know he's going to be home and safe."
Soldiers arriving today at Volk Field completed their out-processing from active duty earlier this week, so they could leave Volk Field to spend time with their close friends and family. With the return of Troop E, the Wisconsin National Guard will have about 250 soldiers and airmen serving on active duty.
Welcome Home and Thank You.
