He's not an Obama speechwriter, he's a writer for the London Daily Mirror. And the day after the 2004 Presidential election he expressed his frustration in an alarmingly Obamaesque way:
"Were I a Kerry voter, though, I'd feel deep anger, not only at them returning Bush to power, but for allowing the outside world to lump us all into the same category of moronic muppets. The self-righteous, gun-totin', military-lovin', sister-marryin', abortion-hatin', gay-loathin', foreigner-despisin', non-passport ownin' red-necks, who believe God gave America the biggest d*** in the world so it could urinate on the rest of us and make their land 'free and strong.'"
Well, that's certainly why I supported Bush, but I'm not sure it entirely accounts for the other 62,039,073 incontinent rednecks. Mr Reade, though, does usefully enumerate some of the distinctive features that separate America from the rest of the west. "Self-righteous"? If you want a public culture that reeks of indestructible faith in its own righteousness, try Europe — especially when they're talking about America: If you disagree with Eutopian wisdom, you must be an idiot. Obama and far too many Democrats have bought into this delusion, most thoroughly distilled in... What's The Matter With Kansas?...
Europeans did "vote for their own best interests"— i.e., cradle-to-grave welfare, 35 hour work-weeks, six weeks of paid vacation, etc.— and as a result they now face a perfect storm of unsustainable entitlements, economic stagnation, and declining human capital that's left them so demographically beholden to unassimilable levels of immigration that they're being remorselessly Islamized with every passing day. We should thank God (if you'll forgive the expression) America's loser gun-nuts don't share the same sophisticated rational calculation....

For inbreds look at your first-cousin marryin' immigrants, who spend their spare time settin' fire to your cars.
Lots of us rednecks have passports. But when you can drive 810 miles, that's about 1300 km for you euroweenies, in a straight line INDIDE one of our states, you don't really need a pasport. Driving 810 miles in a straight line in europe would probably have you crossing three or four international borders and maybe into an ocean.
As for the rest of your accusations, I'm proud of them. And, nanner, nanner to you.

It’s actually more than 900 miles. When you go into Texas from Louisiana on I-10, there is a sign saying “El Paso, 940 miles.
It’s been a while, but I remember the last mile marker sign as 810 before crossing the bridge to Louisiana.

I’ve made this point a number of times to a friend from Scotland who is living here. Scotland is very tiny and he still doesn’t grasp the immense size of this country. I also point out that up until a few years ago Americans didn’t need a passport in order to travel to Mexico or Canada - Virtually the entire North American continent was accessable to travellers with just a birth certificate. We didn’t need passports unless we went overseas.
A few weeks ago, I waas taking with a guy who is making his living in a government agency that is involved in transportation and many of his comments involved the press ofpeople in the urban areas.
I asked him how much of the US was developed. he replied that it was obviously less than he thought so he gave me a low figure: 45%.
I told him that according to the BLM the number was 4.33 percent. He gave me look that was priceless, as if he was having difficulty understanding what I was saying. I asked him whether he had ever driven through Kansas. He said no. I said there is no one out there, it is profoundly empty. And then I listed off the states that were thinly populated and it was like he suddenly saw the light. A very long list that isn’t just western states. It was funny.
I read America Alone.
I then called my nephew, whose wife was pregnant with their fourth baby and said “Thanks!”
