Wednesday afternoon's shooting comes on the heels of a particularly violent weekend in the city. Between Friday night and early Monday morning, 36 people were shot in Chicago, nine fatally, and two people were stabbed.

Half these shooting are on the West side, which is at least as bad.

In Chicago metro area we’re famous for living in a segregated way, so this violence is rarely near the middle class.

It makes for a safe downtown and other fun areas if you simply don’t go South or West, or, if you do go South, stay along the lake up to Hyde Park.

I know it isn’t a PC question but I’d make some heavy bets that most are black..

It's usually mostly black, but a lot of Hispanic too.

Things never change in Chicago, apparently. I was born and raised there - moved away in early 1969. The South side was always the “bad” part of town. People who weren’t looking for trouble knew to stay away from there. I’m saddened to see that some of the West side neighborhoods where I lived in the mid-40’s to mid-50’s have succumbed to these violent populations.

Gotta ask.. what is the deal with all the shootings in the legs?? Is that some sort of a gang thing or do they just have sucky aim?? ;)

Its this thing that gangbangers have where they think its cool to hold the pistol sideways, one-handed. What it means is that they can't hit jack with it. That they ever hit anything intentionally is merely by loading up the air with lead.

A reasonably competent shooter in a Weaver stance has an automatic advantage over one of those guys. His (or her) double-tap will probably find its mark before the gangbanger does.
