Man, I had to vote no. Even though I carry, I just think some environments and guns don’t mix. I know some FReepers think of young Republicans in starched white shirts when they think of college. However, I remember college and it was a drunken orgy from 3pm until 2am ever night. It wouldn’t have been prudent or wise to introduce guns into that environment.

Do you think there should be a length of time that a gun owner should have under their belt in gun use before being able to carry? If a person has just bought their first gun are they ready to make choices necessary to shoot? I young people can be trained in the safe use of guns, we have thousands in the military proving this everyday.But I remember several people from college that were able to archive on an academic level but in other ways were just plain liberal stupid.

What a stupid poll - for two reasons. First, it seems obvious to me the answer should be “yes”... There shouldn’t be any discussion/poll about it. Second, the website is set up terribly. I spent a few minutes bouncing back to the FR page, then through the link again and re-voted, many, many times. I personally raised “Yes” by 2% ;-)

Sure, it is stupid and unscientific. That doesn't mean that we should let them create a tool to beat us over the head.

If the poll says that people prefer defenseless victim zones for their kids, many anti-gun types will be using it in their propaganda.

The questions were (deliberately?) badly framed. No one in their right mind would propose that all underage students be allowed to carry on campus, when their doing so elsewhere is illegal. The question should have read,

"Should licensed, adult students be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus"?

The paper/website is in Corpus Christi, Texas, and as a Texas CHL holder, I will testify that the training (heavy on responsibility and when not to shoot) is a pretty fair screen for eliminating "gunslinger wannabees". And, only adults need apply...
