More than 3,000 news stories have been penned since early April about Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama. But behind the five second loop is a man who has preached three different sermons nearly every Sunday since 1972. In his interview on BILL MOYERS JOURNAL, Reverend Wright discusses what drew him to the pulpit and the recent controversy surrounding him.

Are we still paying for PBS or have they been forced over to wholly private funding yet?
On behalf of all fellow conservatives I would like to personally thank Rev Wright and Bill Moyers for their interview this evening. We never, in our humble opinion, could have pulled this off!
Operation Chaos continues!!!
The innocent, open minded, tolerant Jeremiah Wright (who shouldn’t be an issue in this campaign) vs. evil, white, racist, sexist, homophobic white society that was built on slavery and oppression (which should be issues in this campaign.)
- the unbiased, non partisan media take...
Unfortunately we all pay for this travesty. Not surprising that Jeremiah Wright would find the servile leftist Bill Moyers to “do a Lewinsky” on him.... Let’s not hold our breath expecting any tough questions or follow-ups (I can’t bear to watch Moyers but I’ll look for coverage afterwards to find out just how much of a suck-up it was).
Moyers will kiss his America-hating ass.
“Damage Control attempt for Obama in front of a tame DNC”
I don’t think Obamas people wanted this. They want him gone.
I’ve read what has been released so far and have concluded that Rev. Wright is not going to let himself be lorded over by Obama or his minions. I like him for that.
Your tax dollars at work: PBS and Moyers whitewashing an evil black Nazi.
Your tax dollars paying for left wing propaganda.
...to compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical. -Thomas Jefferson
Moyers? L0L!!!
I heard a portion of this interview. I’m really tired of those in Democrat circles refusing to take responsibility for what they say and believe. They always come back with they were taken out of context or they really didn’t mean what they wrote or said though they far more than many are very clear in what they mean when they are passionately rebuking this country, the war, and our American culture.
Their radicalism is not in question and to speak in metered subdued tones does not make it less so. Whether it is radical feminists screaming for the blood of the unborn spraying spittle like rabid creatures rather than human beings or men and women marching through the streets of our cities and towns dressed ridiculously proclaiming how proud they are that they sleep with members of the same sex not happy to be content in the privacy of their bedrooms but instead marching from those streets straight into our schools to accost the minds of our most venerable children in hopes to eventually do the same to their bodies. Is there any doubt when they defend our enemies whether they be communist, terrorist, or socialist dictator. They always find a reason to blame American, to “God Damn America”.
Well to that I say “God Damm them”. May they sleep in their own personal hell made up of those words and actions. America does not need an explaination on a third rate program from them, they made themselves loud and clear, they are with our enemies and regardless of the fantastic web of words they try to weave they they will not snare our forgiveness but instead find a cold lonely place from which they should be grateful that in America even the traitorous are well fed.
He highlights the sordid and base always.,.
Or spins the positive in a negative way..
And almost never expresses the hopeful positive..
Something about Moyers "stinks"..
Just like Obama, he's ashamed of his light skin, so he says racist things about whites and dresses up in his costumes to overcompensate.
I would watch the interview, but every time I see Bill Moyers, I find myself on the verge of throwing up. But, please, do get back to me with any important details. :)
re: “taken out of context”
Actually, for Wright’s raving rant just days after 9/11 the context makes it much WORSE. While the ruins were still burning in NYC and body parts were being collected at all three terrorist sites (remember that we didn’t even know who all the dead were yet), Rev. Wright was not interested in helping with any kindness or compassion or healing for the VICTIMS and their familes.
No, no, no..... he was only concerned to give a deranged self-serving rant about how it was all America’s fault and “America’s chickens are coming home to roost” (waves his arms like a madman). I despise him even more for the context in which he gave that particular sermon — while all real Americans were mourning and preparing to support our counter-offensive against the jihad scum, Rev. Wright was spouting lunatic propaganda blaming his own countrymen for the terrorist attacks. The context makes Jeremiah Wright one of the most contemptible figures ever to appear in our public life.
Has anyone done a background on Wright? He looks mixed race.
Viewing the comments in context makes them even worse. There is no context that rescues him from being full of hate and inciting hate in his congregation. The whole congregation cheers thoroughout, that tells you as much as what Wright himself is saying. What is Obama doing in a community that cheers this stuff on? The cheering also tells you that all these speeches weren’t out of character for him at all, they were typical fare.
“GOD DAMN AMERICA” said over and over again, wasn’t a momentary flash of anger or hyperbole. It was a calculated seemless part of a long thoroughly premeditated speech. And that’s only one speech, there were several others just as bad, like the one where he says the government invented AIDS to mass murder blacks, israel is a dirty word, on and on.
Some context:

Thankfully, I don’t get pBS.
Race card in play... Race card in play...
You still pay for it.
It’s really a shame Moyers didn’t have the chance to interview the Reverend Jim Jones and set the record straight about that koolaid business.
Same here. Talk about bitter-looking - squinting little eyes, downturned mouth, he just looks perpetually p***ed off.
Lucky for us the Bill Moyer’s crap runs on sunday afternoons here. Tonight the local PBS station is running a show about Jimmy Stewart!
I haven't seen one yet.
You folks who talk about barfing at Bill Moyers must have read Barry Goldwater’s autobiography! He said the very same thing. Who doesn’t want to throw up at hearing Moyers’ left wing rants??
Goldwater offended conservatives in his later years but for most of his career of course he believed in small government and that is the direction in which he tried to steer the GOP. What a shame the man who succeeded him in the Senate is another big government Republican.
I think if I had my choice between a couple of root canals, walking on my hands and knees across an acre of ground glass and sipping Jim Jones KoolAid, I would have to give serious thought to acceding to the former before watching Bill Moyers--or ANYTHING on PBS.
Moyers is a disciple of Herbert Marcuse. Ditto for David Brancochio and others in PBS and the wider media. They have no God but Karl Marx...
Is Bill Moyers going to be sober?
Moyers' performance could perhaps best be described as "fawning".
Powederpuff questions from a lightweight "journalist" to a hard-core anti-American.
I became convinced that I will join the Freep at the National Press Club on Monday morning.
Wright said that because blacks sang the blues was why black’s suicide rate was so low. He did not mention about black on black homicide rate or rap music. Wright is trying to say that when he said God damn America, he was talking about “government” and that was biblical. In the King James government is only used four times and governments used once. Wright was damning America and that is the nation of America. Wright is first and foremost anti-nationalism, and his Anti-Americanism is outgrowth of his Anti-nationalism. I would suppose that stems from his Marxism.
WHAT HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH ANYTHING?
Wright is very intelligent and learned about theology. He does present the black perspective. I am listening to the whole thing because I want to understand his perspective.
He does present a historical perspective on how Christianity
supported slavery and how this was not part of Christ’s message.
Having said all this, listening to his sermons in context and listening to the man, what troubles me is that according to him we are no longer any farther along in our country’s major major achievements in strides in racial harmony out of a difficult history. I also feel he is a radical along what would be very leftist lines. and what disturbs me the most about him is that I don’t hear him say anything positive about America and that he stays with the victim, anger state.
His “ violence begets violence” and the moral relativism that we bombed Hiroshima and there was no reason for it....well, that just does not seem reasonable. Moreover, we are not imperialistic as Britain or Germany was.
The American-hating, racist, a**hole will only do interview with leftist clowns who will kiss his ass and throw him softball questions.
Wright would NEVER interview with O’Reilly or Hannity or even Glenn Beck.
II Peter 2:10
But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
I don't find in there where it says to GD anyone never mind a whole country.
I agree with that. I was trying to make the point that Wright said the context of what he said was that he meant government. I was noting that government or governments is not talked about much in the Bible.
Moyers appears to have forgotten about his full glass of wine. This must be serious.
It's been said that Bill Moyers holds a deep seeded resentment for the new media but I think his resentment goes way beyond the new media.
He obviously seems to have some issues with people writing and saying different points of view from his worldview and being able to do those things without any retribution or consequences. I can tell you that if this sorry, lazy, miserable good for nothing doofus had his way, people like me would be rounded off and carted off to mental institutions like food crates.
These people do not have this nation's best interests in their hearts. Their only interest is to cleanse this nation of anything and everything christian conservative. They envision America as a christian and conservative free zone. These clowns and goonies need to be undermined, subverted and put out of business.
And oh BTW I remeber Bill Moyers too. That Dateline NBC hit piece on christians and conservatives following the awful events of April 19, 1995 in Oklahoma City. Saying people like me who spoke out against the Clintons and the Democrat party and their enormously harmful social and political agenda were somehow responsible for Timothy McVeigh and his actions on April 19, 1995. Moyers is nothing but a sorry, lazy, miserable good for nothing S.O.B. and a**hole.
Regards........
