Washington, D.C. In commending the Department of Homeland Securitys decision to terminate its Project 28 virtual fence initiative, Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) once again called for the construction of physical, reinforced fencing in place of technology-only alternatives. The decision to abandon Project 28 in the Tucson sector of Arizona was the result of multiple system failures, significant cost over-runs and project delays.
The decision to terminate the Project 28 initiative underscores the fact that technology alone is an unreliable and ineffective border enforcement tool, said Congressman Hunter. I hope that DHS has learned from this experience and will begin to more aggressively build the physical, reinforced fencing that we know works so well.
Even though Project 28 produced approximately 3,000 apprehensions since tests began last December, it is estimated that hundreds of illegal immigrants attempt to cross into the U.S. through the Tucson sector everyday. The number of presumed crossings in this sector, since the start of Project 28, clearly demonstrates the failure of virtual fencing as a stand-alone enforcement mechanism.
Conversely, crossing attempts and apprehensions in the Yuma sector, where approximately 30 miles of physical fencing has been built since 2007, have significantly declined. In 2006, before fence construction, there were almost 119,000 apprehensions in the Yuma sector. In 2007, when fence construction started, the number of apprehensions reduced to approximately 38,000 -- and so far in 2008, there have been fewer than 4,000 apprehensions in this particular sector.
As the author of the fencing provisions in the Secure Fence Act, Hunter concluded, The decline of apprehensions in the Yuma sector, since the start of border fence construction, proves that border fencing works. We should not waste any more time and taxpayer dollars pursuing technology-only alternatives to physical fencing.
This was Rudy's wet dream, if I recall.
Hmmm.
McCain on the one hand
Hunter on the other
I’m waiting for Rod Serling to come on to the forefront of my mind to tell me where I am at.
He was on Savage the other day talking about the Airbust deal.
I believe he would have been such a good president for America.
I’m still disturbed about the Huckabee endorsement.
I hope he was just having a bad day. : )
Ping!
In 2006 there were 350 BP agents in the Yuma Sector in 2006, now there are 800. In 2006 when illegals from Mexico were apprehended, they were processed, and sent back across the border, to try again, now they are arrested, and locked up for a minimum of two weeks, charged with misdemeanor entry, and deported. The next time they get caught entering illegally they are arrested, and charged with felony entry.
The gang in Washington will build a real fence when Al Gore becomes a Republican and calls global warming a “fraud.”
Sometimes u can be in the minority and still be right...it just makes ya a lil bit ahead of your time...God Bless ya Duncan!
In other news:
Look how dead the GOP is. Duncan Hunter was the man we needed, but not to be and I don’t see anything good coming out of this election and we will be extremely lucky if we make it to another.
Huck did a couple things that paved the way for Hunter endorsing him.
He vowed no amnesty and to build the REAL border fence.
He vowed to tack on China’s malfeasance.
McCain will do neither.
After that, they should be hanged.
BTT!
Yep, we will get another open borders president, no matter who wins.
He’s been fighting this BS since 1981 when he first came to congress.
amazing, but true.
We need to get our sh*t together for 2012. It will be the most important election in decades.
God giveth life, and God taketh it away.
McCain IS pretty old.
We might be picking our nominee at the convention if God says “Times up.”
That sounds reasonable, but I had a hard time believing him because of the Mexican Consulate deal.
I just don’t trust any of ‘em anyore!
I feel the same way.
