Mayor Richard Daley said Saturday Chicago police officers will he armed with high-powered assault rifles when they're on the streets fighting gangs and other criminals.
"Many times they're outgunned, to be very frank," Daley said at an event in the Englewood neighborhood. "When they come to a scene, someone has a semi fully-automatic weapon and you have a little pistol, uh, good luck."
The city's police officers carry pistols, and Daley suggested they will start carrying "M4 rifles."
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the department still is working out details about the M4 carbines.

What an ILLITERATE anti-gunner “Mayor” Daley is - he can’t even discuss guns intelligently. Now, the citizens of Chicage are going to have to put up with swaggering, trigger-happy cops carrying arms that they themselves have been unable to own for years.
NYPD has been using M16s for years. Now the ESU and Hercules teams use M4s and HK MP5s. Additionally one team per precinct per shift is trained in the use of these weapons and carry them in their sector car. Is Chitown living in the distant past?

Oh, for goodness sake, they are talking about all those gangs who have the old style hand-cranked gatling guns! They are “fully” automatic because they fire continously without the need to pull a trigger but they are “semi” fully automatic because you have to turn a hand crank. Didn’t you ever crank a “semi” fully automatic ice cream churn before?

I always wonder if these ignorant RATS even have a clue about how stupid they sound when they say such stupid things. Does anybody ever point out to them how stupid their remarks are? For some reason, anti-gunners are unwilling to learn about firearms. Anti-gun reporters aren’t even willing to follow the Ap Stylebook, which has a section on firearm definitions and terminology.
I was in the military, a Police Officer and worked in the Security field for over 30 years.
I have owned and used more weapons then I can recall. However I never heard of a weapon that was “semi-fully automatic”.
If I was going to speak words that were to be printed or reported you can bet I would ask someone that understands the subject before I made an ass out of myself with as stupid a remark as this politician made....

Me thinks "hizzhonor" need to do a bit of background reading before running his mouth. All He's done so far is prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he knows absolutely nothing about firearms. As to his cops being out-gunned, they are also out thought, out ran, out organized, and out maneuvered. They are not however, out eaten at the local Dunkin Donuts.
