It's the worst of all worlds for the Democrats
The Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | April 27, 2008 | John Brummett

Posted on 04/27/2008 3:09:18 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Two very bad things have happened to Barack Obama. One is that he has been Jesse Jackson-ized. The other is that he has been Michael Dukakis-ized and John Kerry-ized.

Only one bad thing has happened to Hillary Clinton. It was that her husband continued to run his mouth and wag his finger without attention to plain truth. If she'd file for divorce right now, she'd likely gain six points in the polls.

The biggest political news last week was not that Hillary beat Obama by 10 points in Pennsylvania. It was two other things.

One was that she beat him that soundly despite his getting an estimated 92 percent of the black vote. She beat him from 2-to-1 to 3-to-1 in rural counties where white working people predominate.

The Democratic vote is thus fully polarized racially, just as Bill Clinton endeavored to make it in South Carolina by dismissing Obama's win there as nothing more than Jackson's in 1988.

That was despite the fact that Obama had just won one of our whitest states, Iowa, and run a strong second in another, New Hampshire.

Positioned to be a transformational figure, Obama instead got typecast by the man who, in 1992, cynically appealed to white people by blasting a black rapper.

For all the deserved criticism he's taken for abandoning one of his few remaining virtues -- racial reconciliation -- to drive a political wedge in his wife's favor, Bill's tactics have borne fruit. It's now white people for Hillary and blacks for Obama, and there are more white people than black.

Second, Republicans in two conservative Southern states, North Carolina and Louisiana, saw advantages in running ads seeking to tie local Democrats not to Hillary, but to Obama. That's a sure sign that he is seen as the more culturally alien, the more out of the mainstream and the one about whom fears could most easily be fomented.

He is now an updated version of Dukakis and Kerry, who were seen in the South as of frightfully alien values.

Here's a conversation of two 30-something Southern males overheard the other evening:

"Can you believe it? I'm more afraid of Obama than Hillary."

"Yeah, I know. I mean, if you won't put your hand over your heart for the National Anthem ..."

(There's this picture. You've probably received it by e-mail. Obama is standing to listen to a band play the "Star Spangled Banner." A big flag waves behind him. His hands are at his side. Personally, I've never saluted a band. This is silly, but powerful, because it's a simple symbol. Dukakis vetoed a bill to mandate the recitation by Massachusetts school children of the Pledge of Allegiance. Mandating a pledge is clearly an unconstitutional infringement on the free expression that the flag ought to stand for. But it doesn't seem to work that way with the mushy, pliable center of American politics.)

In Louisiana, the Republicans have run two ads seeking to tie a Democratic congressional candidate to "the radical agenda of Obama and Pelosi." That's not, mind you, Hillary and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is as easy a Southern target as a San Francisco liberal.

In North Carolina, Republicans are running a commercial calling on two Democratic gubernatorial candidates to say whether they support or denounce Obama's "associates," meaning the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and that old domestic terrorist, William Ayers, into whose Chicago home Obama once stepped.

Hillary, meantime, has all the momentum, except for Bill's claiming insanely that Obama had played a race card on him, then claiming with exponential, finger-waving insanity the next day that he hadn't said what he had plainly said, as a radio tape verified.

She needs to put a muzzle on the tomcat.

If Hitlery gets the nod, I see no reason why McPain can't get the Presidency. I have to say that it is the lesser of the evils. McPain is no prize.

Putting your hand over your heart is indeed a choice. Standing there solemnly is another choice. I find it comical that Obama is considered non-patriotic for not placing his hand over his heart.

He ought to know better though; clearly the Clinton machine is in full roar. The guy has run a great campaign but is now on the verge of getting crushed.

My hope is black people will see this for what it is and finally, FINALLY turn their collective backs on the Democratic Party........who has never done a thing for black Americans.

Sorry, but you can't put the blame of the Jesse Jackson-ization of Obama on Bill Clinton's mouth.

You have to put it on Barack Obama's butt that, for 20 years on Sunday, was planted in a pew in Jeremiah Wright's Church of Our Lady of the Perpetual Race Card.

Simply because they’re seeing him getting destroyed by the Clinton slander machine. You know, turning it into a racial issue instead of staying on point and discussing issues?

They can’t blame republicans or conservative people about what’s going on.......they can only blame the Clinton’s and the DNC for sitting on their hands and not doing anything about it.

Happy days.

There is a great (read hysterical) political cartoon in the Las Vegas Sun 04/27 issue that depicts Obama in a crypt looking into a casket that contains Hillary (you don't see her) with a stake sticking up out of it.

The disembodied voice from the casket says to the astonished Obama, "Is that the best you can do?". I tried pulling it up but the search engines pull up some other cartoon. Trust me, it is priceless!

Doesn't that mean that, by Liberal standards and definitions, rural, White DEMOCRATS are racists? Hmmmm.... So, next time a Lib tries to say that all Republicans are racists, we can point to the fact that the majority of Democrats refused to vote for a black candidate. Cool. Talk about chickens coming home to roost!

Obama’s problem is that too many “crackers” have figured out that he holds them in contempt. The mainstream media’s task, between now and November, is to guilt-trip them into voting for Obama anyway. That doesn’t appear likely to succeed, so Plan B will be to destroy McCain one way or another.

Obama is standing to listen to a band play the "Star Spangled Banner." A big flag waves behind him. His hands are at his side.

That {expletive} wouldn't fly around here. I happen to work on an Air Force Base. Every day at 1630 they sound retreat - "The Star Spangled Banner." Any military personnel that are outside stop, face the command building (flagpoles out front) and salute. Civilians are expected to stop, similarly face the flag, empty their hands, and place their right hand over their heart. If you're in the parking lot, driving in/out at about 1630 and you see everyone on foot stopped and facing the command building, you are expected to at least stop your vehicle, shut off the motor, and sit quietly. (exiting your vehicle and standing at attention, hand over heart, would be a plus) Any civilian that doesn't, follow these guidelines gets talked to. I've seen it happen to visitors. After the retreat, they are politely, but firmly, informed that on this base everyone shows respect to the flag and the country, period.

Indeed. And that is a conclusion, not an opinion open to change. I heard on the news tonight that Obama has decided his campaign needs to "reach out" to the blue-collar white voter.

Good luck. He already has shown that he totally does not get middle America, so his every effort will probably dig his hole deeper.

Gosh darn it, who reared this guy? Didn't everyone learn as a kid that they were supposed to stand and put their hand over their heart (or salute when in uniform) when the National Anthem is played at an event? Or was it just Southerners and Midwesterner? Or did Harvard take it out of him?

It didn’t need the clintons to polarize the races. Barack is doing a good job all by himself.

And his hands are not at his side. They are over his crotch.

And, yes, it could have been just an oversight, if it weren’t part of a pattern of America-hatred that you see repeated again and again.

That is as it should be! I can not imagine hearing the National Anthem being played without putting my hand over my heart. IMO, that picture of Obama says one of two things - either he has such a hatred for this country that he can not bring himself to show proper respect for our national symbols or he is too inexperienced a politician to realize how such a photo would look to the rest of America.

What, exactly, do you see as racist about Obama’s current problems? Are any of them things that have not, in fact, transpired? If Obama were white, would you find his present problems racist?

I’ve grown exceedingly tired of people who say anything and everything is racist, even if it’s true and completely objective. I can’t help but question their motives.

All I know is that food prices are skyrocketing. Gasoline prices are zooming up everyday. Social Security Insurance is in the red. The war in Iraq is costing billions every month. And, all the voters hear about is the Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, and Bill Clinton's wagging finger and big stupid mouth.

Hillary thinks she's under sniper fire in Bosnia while playing Rocky with an ocassional tear.

Rush Limbaugh is promoting his "Operation Chaos" t-hirts, caps, and bumper stickers. Sean Hannity has become a one monologue mantra, Ayers and Wright.

The America voters are ill served by this redundant pandering and pathetic inability to address the issues that truly should concern us more for our future and our childrens future.

But, no, we are being distracted and jerked around by the complete incompetence and utter lack of discussion of policies that could very well bring Americans greater posterity and security.

We are being immensely entertained while the underlying stink of corruption, incompetence and negligence is eroding the foundation of our trust in our elected officials.
