Chattanooga: Community forum for immigrants draws packed house

Aura Izarra, a Guatemala native with two small children who is pregnant with a third, may face deportation after her arrest at the Pilgrim’s Pride chicken processing plant here last week.

“This whole week has been horrible,” Mrs. Izarra, who was among 36 detainees released with an ankle-bracelet monitor, said tonight in Spanish. “I keep thinking of what’s going to happen to my children and my husband who depend on my care.”

Mrs. Izarra was among about 200 people who attended a community forum tonight at the St. Andrew’s Center to find out more about rights and legal options after the arrests of 100 workers suspected of being illegal immigrants.

A Nashville representative of the American Civil Liberties Union talked to the group about the rights they have regardless of their legal status.

“If any law enforcement officer asks you any questions, you have the right to remain silent,” Tricia Herzfeld said.

In a full room, with people standing against the walls and in the halls, the attendees asked questions about the possibility of legalizing their status and the options they might have if they were among the workers arrested or had relatives who are detained.

If they convince enough people to vote for McCain, they will get their wish.

It does not matter who they vote for.
Any of the gang of three will welcome them with open arms.

What is wrong with these people? Take their families back with them to Mexico. Hell, Mexico has an economy that is growing at about 13%; ours is about 2%!

They act as though going home is a death sentence. How ridiculous!

Actually, the Dims have had to shy away from amnesty, unless they have cover by the Republicans. It seems their crazies are more vocal against it than we are.

She should have thought of that before she broke the law and became a criminal.

What rights do illegal criminal alien invaders have?

Meet our new imported slave class. This time around, instead of the plantation owner, we are ALL being forced to assume the care, feeding, housing and education of said slaves.

Hopefully to be sent home a few weeks before anchor #3 is born.

Why Mexican illegals are driving America "cuckoo"

Why doesn't Mexico take care of its own people? Why don't the ultra-wealthy Mexican elites help to pay for the health care and education etc of their own poor? Why do they instead encourage their poor to leave Mexico and invade the United States? Nature provides a parallel that is instructive.

Some species of birds thrive not by carefully rearing their own young, but by pawning that task off on adults of other species. The European Cuckoo, whose distinctive call is immortalized in the sound of the "cuckoo clock," is the bird in which this habit has been most thoroughly studied. Female European Cuckoos lay their eggs only in the nests of other species of birds. A cuckoo egg usually closely mimics the eggs of the host (one of whose eggs is often removed by the cuckoo).

The host may recognize the intruding egg and abandon the nest, or it may incubate and hatch the cuckoo egg. Shortly after hatching, the young European Cuckoo, using a scoop-like depression on its back, instinctively shoves over the edge of the nest any solid object that it contacts. With the disappearance of their eggs and rightful young, the foster parents are free to devote all of their care to the young cuckoo. Frequently this is an awesome task, since the cuckoo chick often grows much larger than the host adults long before it can care for itself. One of the tragicomic scenes in nature is a pair of small foster parents working like Sisyphus to keep up with the voracious appetite of an outsized young cuckoo.

“We are going to be in deep trouble unless we address this anchor baby issue.”

*BINGO*

Of all families collecting welfare, including medicaid, cash assistance, food stamps & wick, housing vouchers, utility assistance, etc.....I’d like to know the statistics on the number of ‘illegal’ immigrant families collecting federal bennies LEGALLY, due to ANCHOR BABIES.

In my opinion, the anchor baby situation may be even more of a draw to this country than jobs because they ARE receiving the bennies LEGALLY. And the ability to receive TWO incomes (work and bennies) is the ultimate magnet.

All this talk about jobs is just talk. While illegal aliens might be being rounded up in these dog and pony shows and then some are deported (only to return) the EMPLOYERS are very rarely fined.

That should be our priority! Ireland did it as have most countries, so can we.

Clinton or Obama will make their wish come true sooner.

How much sooner? If amnesty is passed, this country is finished with a stroke of a pen. Amnesty is forever. We will not only legalize the status of the 12 to 20 million illegals already here, we will add an additional 66 to 100 million LEGAL IMMIGRANTS who they will sponsor thru chain migration, i.e., family reunification. McCain is known as the "Amnesty King" because of his princpal role in the 2006 [S 2611] and 2007 [McCain-Kennedy] amnesty bills.

It will be easier to fight amnesty in Congress if McCain is not in the WH.

Not so. He has said the laws must be enforced. The action in Chatanoogs was an enforcement action and he will not countermand it.

You are correct... he said the laws must be enforced. However, he said a lot of things, especially after the prior immigration debacle, and then proceeded to push it again after the Dims took the House and Senate.

What McCain has said recently and what McCain has be doing his entire political career are not very closely correlated. He may say to enforce the law, but then he was one of the strongest proponents for making amnesty the law.

re: Clinton or Obama will make their wish come true sooner.)))

I disagree. We'd have better prospects fighting the Democrat than the Maverick. McCain's entire career has been spent brokering conservatives to Democrats--selling us to puff his liberal resume. He's never get his name of liberal legislation if he were a Democrat. He's been a successful anti-conservative...far more successful at promoting liberalism than the Clintons ever were.
