One of the strangest things about the NAACP Wright pseudo-scientific speech on learning, and its enthusiastic CNN coverage and analysis, was the abject racialism of Wright. It was sort of an inverse Bell-Curve presentation, based on assumed DNA differences.
His convoluted explanation of African-American right-brain 'oral' culture as more creative, musical, and spontaneous versus European left-brain traditional analysis could never have been given by someone white to that audience without justifiably earning booing and catcalls.
Three comments: this was just the sort of racist 'genetic' difference that most Americans learned to shun, now apparently quite acceptable again, and part of the mainstream.
Second, there is no evidence that so-called Europeans could not "rap" or create an oral literature as well as Africans remember, oral poetry as we know it , began with bards like Homer somewhere in the southeastern Aegean and continued into modern times in the Balkans.
Three, some of the most accomplished speakers of English and analytical thinkers are African-Americans, a fact everyone immediately recognizes from what they read and with whom they speak.
In short, Wright's speech on black-right brainers, white-left brainers replete with bogus stereotypes and crude voice imitations was about as racist as they come and at one time antithetical to what the NAACP was once all about. Again, the Obama campaign and its appendages have set back racial relations a generation. Just ten years ago, any candidate, black or white, would have rejected Wright making a speech about genetic differences in respective black and white brains. Now it's given to civil rights organizations by the possible next President's pastor and spiritual advisor and done to wild applause for an organization founded on the idea that we are innately the same, while being gushed over by ignorant "commentators."
As I said before, between Wright's racism and hatred, and Obama's contextualization of what he has said, we have so lowered the bar that the next racist (and he won't necessarily be black) who evokes hatred of other races and then offers a mish-mash pop theory of genetic differences will have plenty of "context" to ward off public fury.
Orwellian times.
I think the rev has jumped the shark.
Not among his constituents, he hasn’t. Nor among the black and white lefty academics, who have been going on with this crazy “ice people” (whites) and - what were they ? - “sun people,” I believe (blacks) for decades now. As the article says, if a white person had said this, he’d be toast by now. But blacks and white liberals eat this stuff up when a black person says it.
So’s Obama.
What I can’t figure out, is since whites are supposedly less “creative”, how did whites ever produce Mozart, Beethoven, Michaelangelo, Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Notre Dame, etc etc etc?
But Wright refuses, he wants to prove that Obama is with him, (by exposing that Obama lies like a pol) so their scam on the public is plain.
This is one thing that angers me regard to this whole Wright mess: black people don't realize that we may be setting the stage for something far far worse. Something we may not be able to control next time.
Sorry, I meant black liberals, like their white counterparts. City College had a professor who actually taught this garbage in class, on the payroll of the City of New York, and he was defended tooth and nail by people who should have known better. Yet when a genuine intellectual like Justice Thomas, who happens to be black, is invited to address young people, schools won’t even let him visit.
Sometimes I think the world has gone mad. The thing that gets me about Wright is that nobody seems to dare to stand up and say that the man’s crazy, he’s spouting nonsense, and there’s no earthly way he - or any one who follows him, such as Obama - should be taken seriously in this country. You’d think this would be a winning position for any politician. Yet they’re all, GOP and Dem alike, afraid to say it.
Actually, another thought. You may find this interesting.
In the 19th century in slaveholding parts of the South, certain Protestant ministers came up with a “dual creation” theory, that is, that blacks and whites were created separately, and that blacks were created after whites as their servants. This was to defend the fact that certain Southern states forbade preaching to black slaves and particularly forbade the baptism of black slaves, because this would mean that they were fully human and could not be treated as property.
At the first Vatican Council in 1868, the Catholic Bishop of St. Augustine, Bishop Verot, wanted a statement adopted stating that there was only one creation of man and that all human beings came from this same creation. Since most of the other atttending clergy were Europeans, they had no idea what he was talking about (because the dual-creation theory was never common in Europe) so the issue never even got voted on. He felt it was the most important resolution they could have passed and he regarded the Council as pretty much of a waste of time because they did not.
Bishop Verot himself was French, and was paternalistic towards African slaves, since he felt that they had come here against their will and came from an entirely different culture and needed special help in becoming part of mainstream American culture. He was on the side of the Confederacy, for example, because he felt it was a more humane, agrarian culture than northern culture and could protect human values better. But he adapted well to the defeat of the Confederacy, and was at all times extremely opposed to the “dual creation” theory.
It’s certainly odd that this theory seems to be coming back again in our time.
I figured after seeing both Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith in the 2007 Superbowl, and how NEITHER man wanted to discuss race, and how Dungy showed strong Christian leadership, things would just keep moving forward! Obama started out as something great, but it turns out to be a lie.
The REV ain’t saying anything different than Farakan been spouting for years
And THE MSM fell all over themselves covering and praising his MILLION MAN MARCH
When you sleep with snakes, expect to get bitten. MSM, Obama, and rest of Chablis drinking Libs, they have two pet snakes in Wright and Farrakhan, and now they get stung.
The tragedy is that Billary is many times more venemous snake and now it will sting America 1000 times worse than before.
