Time to go buy some locking gas caps again I guess.
Most vehicles going back 10 years have a screen between the tank and the cap. You can't "siphon" them with a hose any more unless you break the screen, just hope there's no sparks when the thief knocks it out...so guess how I learned about this?
Many people learned a hard lesson down here in SoFlo during Wilma. They thought they could skip buying additional gas for their generators and siphon it as they needed it from 15-20 gallon car tanks. I wouldn't have wanted to be around for the moment of "surprise" for the ones who didn't buy any additional gas.
I made it 5 days on the supplies I bought and had learned they had gas some 60 miles North, so I drove all the way up and filled all my cans. Went another 6 days before we had power, but by then we had gotten into a 3 times a day routine with the generator and made it last much longer. It was probably a lot like living in Venezuela.
Hope I never have to apply that experience again.
Did anyone else notice that the cost of living went up just after the minimum wage went up over 15%
(at the same time as OPEC raised its prices- very bad timing)
ROTFLOL!!!
I learned about that screen back during Wilma, I didn't want to wait in a 15 hr. line for fuel and tried to syphon my tank....... all I got was lungs full of fumes.... LOL!!
but I think the thieves are breaking through the screen to syphon the gas now. :-(
Thieves steal whatever items are popular for theft among thieves. Poverty does not make them steal. There’s a thief (hospital security guard) next door to me, and I’ve had a locking gas cap (and other anti-thief gadgets) for several years. Laws and law enforcement policies are now very easy on thieves/meth-heads.
Aw jeez, that's some damage there! Well, we can hope for the "sparks"... ; )
The local firehouses, and churches have had to fill up their tanks more than once because people siphoned the fuel in the tanks.
