Maybe politicians are getting the message from all of the trucks that are supposed to be in Washington to protest.
==
Bush talking about why prices are high: lack of refining, lack of drilling, mandates, regulations, yada yada yada.
“Congress needs to yada yada yada”
Reduce farm subsidies.

The GOP in Congress need to be pushing something. Otherwise the Dems are going kill them in the November because of the economy. People vote based on their pocketbooks.
If food, goods, fuel, and utililty prices continue to rise, the Dems will use the successful 1992 campaign: It’s the economy, Stupid!

I agree. Unexpected but encouraging. Didn’t McCain just talk about ending or reducing the ethanol subsidy? Is there hope we can fix our energy policy?

Yes!!! Hes blasting congress for NOT passing legislation to build in ANWR and NEW refineries! GO President Bush! Let's suppose he gets all the legislation he wants today. How many years or decades would it take to have an impact on the markets?
Why isn't anybody asking W about the impact of the weak dollar on oil and commodity prices? Not that W would give an honest answer.

Bush's blame game speech!
That was disgusting. This guy and his party held the Senate, Congress and the White House for 6 years, and they watched the whole game nose dive.
Now he's blaming who?

Bush should be saying....
“I am sending the following measures to Congress for IMMEDIATE ACTION....”
and then hold their feet to the fire.
Instead, all he is doing is talking around the problem.
[We KNOW what the problem is — high prices, going higher.]

Exactly!
The GOP should have done this 5 years ago when they had majorities in both Chambers and the White House. Instead, they squandered their chance.
It is all politiking -- they don't want to do anything. They won't do anything. Too many (of them) want and like and profit from the status quo.

You live on Planet Denial?
Bush and his party held the Senate, Congress and the White House for 6 freaking years as they watched this economy and energy fiasco go into a nose dive.
He's stood up there for 15 minutes now, blaming everyone.
It was his party's Congress, his party's Senate, and he held the White House.
His blame game is disgusting.

Bush has been talking about and proposing legislation on energy reform ever since he began running for office. So you can't blame him for laws not passed.
Blame the GOP if you must ... though it's pointless. They haven't had undisputed control of the Senate for most of Bush's term in office.

What he needs to do is fly up there and hold a press conference on the spot they want to drill, so the press will have to cover it. Show them vast expanses of nothing with a small square painted on the ground. Let the American people see what it is really all about.

The Democrat leaders in congress will not give the President anything he asks for if they can keep from it. I don’t know how you think he can hold their feet to the fire. They don’t care what he says or what is good for the country or how much suffering we do. Its all about being in control and winning even if what you win is worthless.
