Pelosi Says She Heard Disputed Bible Verse from Priest By Pete Winn CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer April 29, 2008
(CNSNews.com) - The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told Fox News last week that Pelosi heard the disputed Bible "passage" she used in her April 22 Earth Day message from a priest in San Francisco.
Brit Hume reported last Thursday on "Special Report with Brit Hume" that Pelosi's office had told Fox News that the Speaker had "heard a priest quote the verse many years ago during a mass in San Francisco."
On Thursday, Friday, and again on Monday, however, the Speaker's office did not respond to requests for comment made by Cybercast News Service , which first reported on Wednesday, April 23 that biblical scholars have cast doubt on the authenticity of the passage.
In her news release, Pelosi said the quote - 'To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us' - came from the Old Testament.
Biblical scholars told Cybercast News Service that the quote does not appear anywhere in the Bible--Old or New Testament. Moreover, they say nothing similar can be found in Scripture.

In her defense, I can easily believe that in San Francisco a priest would falsely quote the Bible at a mass.
the face of evil
Let me guess: She was so moved by that statement that she wrote it down, took it home and memorized it. Right? Then she waited years for just the right moment to employ it. BTW, have any used cars for sale Nancy?
Did the priest also have a quote about what happens to people who lie about the Good Book?
EHHH? Would that be the King James version he misquoted? If I remember correctly that version was off limits when I was a kid in Catholic school.
I hope she has blamed a dead priest who can’t defend himself.
And we needed Biblical scholars to tell us that? What, people can't open up Blue Letter Bible and run a search in five seconds, if they don't already know the answer?
Wonder what other quotes she remembers from the priest?
Or is this the only one?
There's nothing like that "verse" appearing in the scary ol' King James!
She fell asleep at mass and dreamed it.
Pelosi was in a church and lightning didn’t strike?
It doesn’t matter which translation one is comparing to. I’ve read the entire Orthodox canon of Scripture through several times (longer even what you Latins use), and not only do the ‘verses’ ‘quoted’ not occur, I don’t even recall anythingof which a loose paraphrase would come out as ‘quoted’.
“If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:18-19
Funny. She didn’t hear the Pope telling her she can’t take communion.
Was the Priest’s name Guido Sarducci?
"I didn't hear it myself. The Priest actually was speaking with my wife ... Morgan Fairchild."
Just then amnesia sets in for the first female Speaker of the House. Probably because she meets soooo many priests.
The King James is the last version directly translated from hebrew IIRC...
Sucks to be a mormon.
People hear all sorts of crazy things during an exorcism, though. ;)
She drank a lot of ice tea that Sunday, and misheard a real quote over the faulty PA in the church bathroom.
"Doubt"? What is she telling us, just because nobody can find it doesn't mean it's not there?
No, there are numerous more recent from the Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic.
The NIV is probably the best that is still fairly easy to understand and not terribly political -— or if political/disptued, gives full disclosure of the disputes in footnotes.
From a priest as he was conducting a failed exorcisism on the she-devil.
She probably doesn't recall his name...
Except the King James wasn’t directly translated.
The dear old King had a little say as to what actually made the cut in his Bible. It is pretty close to the original manuscripts, but he did edit a bit.
There have been more recent translations, as well.
Beat you by two minutes. ;)
Did you really have to show that face?
April 22 Earth Day? The passage then probably came from the Communist Manifesto, not the Bible! :)
Isn't it amazing, Earth and Lenin were both born on April 22.

". . . on April 22, 1970, Earth Day was held, one of the most remarkable happenings in the history of democracy. . . "

Founded on Lenin's 100th birthday? --yeah, it's a "coincidence". LOL.
Earth Day 1970 (the very first Earth Day):
"The nationwide event included opposition to the Vietnam War on the agenda, but this was thought to detract for the environmental message.
Pete Seeger was a keynote speaker and performer at the event held in Washington DC."

"The Popular Front sought to enlist Western artists and intellectuals, some of them not party members but 'fellow travelers,' to use art, literature, and music to insinuate the Marxist worldview into the broader culture. The murals of Diego Rivera, the poetry of Langston Hughes, the novels of Howard Fastall exemplified this approach. Its an irony that communists should seek to change the culture, of course, since Marxism holds that culture is merely a reflection of underlying economic structures, whose transformation will bring about capitalisms inevitable collapse."
The “verse” from many years ago particularly stuck in her mind ‘cause it was the last time she went to church.
The Priest set me up. /sarcasm
Come on... give her the benefit of doubt... There might have been sniper and rocket fire in the area making it difficult to hear.
Here’s a verse for ya, Nancy-
Rom 1:25 “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”
There’s modern environmentalism, in a nutshell. They’re the new Druids.
I stand corrected...
Quote of the day material! Truly LOL (in the middle of my office no less). ;-)
Plastic face is full of rat shiite!
Such a transparent lie.
Sure, Sure, Nancy! That’s in the book of algore, the part defining earth zealotry....
How about, “Power is both a means and an end”?
Google is your friend.
If you Google the verse, you will find dozens of hits that confirm that the verse comes from the Gospel according to Pelosi.
I am now off to Google the Apostle Pelosi.
No results found for "Apostle Pelosi".
Damn!! Something must be wrong with Google today.
In an article posted yesterday the author gave this quote and attributed it to the book of Proverbs:
“It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt”
A proverb indeed but not from “Proverbs”.
That is not in the King James version either.
Of course that's not in Proverbs, that's II Hezekiah 13:4.
