Dick Morris: The Wright Opportunity for Obama
NewsMax.com ^ | 30 Apr 08 | Dick Morris & Eileen McGann

Posted on 04/30/2008 11:41:33 AM PDT by seanmerc

At the start of his campaign, Obama ran in counterpoint to the previous candidacies of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Here was a black man running for president on issues that had nothing to do with race as he rose above the victimization rhetoric that characterizes so many speeches of African-American political figures.

Now, in attacking the Rev. Wright as he did Tuesday, Obama can further define himself in contrast to Wright, just as he did earlier vis-à-vis Jackson and Sharpton.

So if, as the Chinese ideogram suggests, crisis is a synthesis of danger and opportunity, the controversy surrounding Wright presents plenty of both for Obama.

In his statement Tuesday, Obama moved decisively and well to seize the opportunity that Wright’s wrongs pose.

The danger Wright presents is obvious enough. He has come to epitomize everything white Americans fear in an African-American public figure, secular or clerical. He is anti-white, anti-American, and avidly embraces and propagates all manner of bizarre conspiracy theories.

Don’t have to be black to be like that. That’s pretty much liberalism in a nutshell.

IMHO, what ever Obama does and happens to him in the primaries and general, there will be Black back lash. The question is - how severe?

Wright's bluster as well as Sharpton's recent New York rants are all designed to set up a long hot summer.

It`s a no go, Hussein`s painted himself into a corner.

Either he sat at the feet of the racist Wright for 20 years and agreed(make no mistake, Wright has been spewing his hate that long) or, he used Wright to ingratiate himself into the community and become popular among the hyde park radicals knowing full well he`d dump Wright when he was finished using him.

So, Hussein,do you believe in black liberation theology, yes or no?

He needs to rebut all of the spurious points Wright raised in his now-famous “chickens coming home to roost” sermon and speak up for America, our record and our values.

He needs to explain why we dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki — to save millions of American and Japanese lives, which would have been lost in an invasion. He should defend our support of Israel and take issue with Wright’s characterization of our backing for its efforts to protect itself as “terrorism.” He needs to speak out about America’s moral role in the world and differ sharply and publicly with Wright’s worldview.

I will applaud anybody, ANYBODY, including O'bama, who does that.

But if O'bama does it, it's not enough.

Why was he there for TWENTY-TWO YEARS?

Bull-CaCa Morris, he sat there for 20 years and doesn't know the heart, soul and mind of Rev. Wright?
This is all news to Obama who is now going to do something remarkable in how he handles this?

That either means he is incompetent regarding judgment to deal with forces like Iran, Korea, Russia and so forth or it shows he is expedient as a typical politician who is willing to abandon anything and everything in exchange for the power of the Presidency. No change seen in this politician, lots of black racism seen though.

NOBODY believes Obama didn't really know about Wright and I believe most figure he was quite fine with what Rev. Wright said and educated to the black community.
To believe otherwise requires a suspension of reality IMO.

“By playing off Wright, by attacking his views in depth and detail, Obama can define himself as the un-Wright...”

I think Obama doesn't have the stones for that move. He knows that it would be throwing away a lot of black votes... he can't afford that. Obama is THE man in the middle... and Black America has had if both ways on this issue for so long that NO candidate who won't abjectly patronize black voters will be accepted. Morris overlooked this basic reality of Black American voters.

:: Reality Check ::

When are the main stream media and psuedo-media nitwits like Morris going to wake up and realize that the Obama/Wright Tiff is a H.O.A.X.

It's all a smokescreen to get the minds of the American off the FACT that Obama is a Muslim who happens to hate all White people especially Jews. And, he hates America!!

You don't sit in a pew in the mosque for 20 years without some of that rot rubbing off on you.

Obama didn't appreciate or celebrate that he happened to be a very intelligent man... instead he's been looking for Mr. Goodbar all these years in people like Farrakan and Wright...

Now, whose chickens have come home to roost???? huh huh huh

I read some excerpts from two of Obama’s books that were posted on an FR thread. If the excerps were correct, I’d have to conclude that not only did Obama know about Rev. Wright’s racists beliefs, but he shared (shares) them.

Obama represents what I hate most in politicians and especially liberal politicians. IF they have any core beliefs at all, they are set aside while running for office. Instead of seeing and hearing what they really stand for, we get a bunch of poll-driven drivel.

If you really hate America and think the 2nd Amendment was just a nice suggestion and that Americans don’t pay enough taxes, why don’t you just say it!

I would have a whole lot more respect for a liberal if they would stand up for what they believe. I wouldn’t vote for them, but they would have my respect for being honest.

Instead we get Dukakis riding in a tank - yea, he’s the guy I want protecting my country. Kerry on a hunting trip or any other of a hundred examples of stupid photo-ops, slogans, commercials and applause lines that portray the candidate completely opposite of what they really are.

Obama is a racist and a radical liberal - always has been and always will be. He should campaign on what he truly believes. After 20 years in the Wright “church”, I’m sure those beliefs are quite solid.

BTW - I have listened to many people preach/teach the Word of God and have never heard the type of garbage Wright teaches. And certainly would not continue listening if I did.

There's a good reason Obama is a tabula rasa. It has to do with the fact one can't be an honest liberal in an American national election. That's why he can't tell us who he really is and his true beliefs, since they'll hurt him as much as the Wright baggage he now carries. Liberalism today is a socialist construct outside the American mainstream. I had expected Dick Morris, of all people, to grasp it. That is is why no Democrat, apart from Bill Clinton, has been elected President since 1980.

Dick Morris said Hillary had no chance of a significant victory in Pennsylvania. Dickie said politics was all about money and Hillary was being badly out spent, not only that she made a big strategic mistake by going negative with the few campaign spots she was running. Hillary has NOT run a terribly smart or good campaign, but Hillary knows more about running a good campaign than little Dickie Morris knows about the journalism of political analysis. But whatever, as political commentary goes, he is in the range of accuracy for Fox News or any other cable news network for that matter.

But they can't level with us. Liberals have to do a right fake and disguise their real beliefs to get a chance of being elected. There are few places in the country they can be who they really are. They have a problem with their identity that they think hiding it can solve it for them. We conservatives have no such problem either with our label or with our beliefs in God, family and country. They are out there for all to see.

By playing off Wright, he can recapture his identity as the personification of white hopes for a color-blind politics rather than white fears of anti-American and anti-white public figures.

Morris is right on the money here. This is a moment of great crisis for Obama, but it's possible he could turn it in his---and, at some level, the nation's---favor. As I have said on other threads, if through this Obama ends up taking these racist hate-mongers out---and only someone like Obama can do it at this point in history---that would be wonderful for the nation.

Wright et al. actually cannot allow Obama to succeed, precisely because his very success undermines their lucrative hate industry that claims that it is the white man keeping the black man down. Obviously, that is false for all to see if millions of Typical White People vote for Obama and even put him in the White House.

These racists have been able to marginalize other successful blacks (Rice, Powell, etc.) b/c they were not elected. But Obama's very existence demonstrates that the way to "liberation" is the same for all Americans---go to school, get a job, get out and make something of yourself. Obama is the living, breathing Anti-Black Liberation Theology. In short, Obama is too white for these racists. Based on Wright's despicable performance this week, and Sharpton saying Obama's admonition not to foment violence in NYC was tantamount to "Obama dancing with the white folk," it's obvious that the BLT racists will NEVER allow a black person to reach the White House. They know very well that no person espousing their garbage has a chance in hell of being a viable national candidate. They also know very well that any person who is not an adherent to their views is "mainstream," i.e., post-racial, and that threatens their livelihood and their ability to have million dollar homes in all-white gated golf communities. If Wright comes out swinging after Obama's speech, and he's likely to, Obama will have no choice but to go to full-scale war against him. I say "good." Someone has to take these racists to task and Obama is uniquely situated to do so. I would hate to see Obama as our President because I vehemently disagree with his politics. But if his run and the way he handles this hate-mongering ultimately moves our country forward to a post-racial era, rather than setting it back, for that I'd be very grateful.

So many here are focusing on the twenty years Obama was in Wright’s church.

Morris clearly states that is a problem from which Obama will be hard-pressed to extricate himself.

What people seem to be missing is the point that if Obama takes on the black racism industry, he will tap into something much more of interest to the voting public. He has the chance here to say and do what everybody knows has needed to be said and done for the last few decades. If he pulls it off, he’ll get credit for that. Maybe not enough to get him out of hot water on the 20 years, but credit.

And he should. An enemy of my country’s enemy is my friend, if only for limited purposes.

I was pretty amazed at how un-Wright Obama was at his last speech as it was.

I never thought I’d have the relief of hearing a national politician, either black or white, come right out and say that views such as Wright’s are “appalling” and “ridiculous” and so on.

He went a lot farther than the Witch has ever even come to saying about the Black Liberation Theology garbage.

If he survives to fight another day, he may do more, more often.

Wright, essentially, called Obama his “boy” and Obama told him to shove off. People can go for that.

Black America has had if both ways on this issue for so long that NO candidate who won't abjectly patronize black voters will be accepted.

BTW, you're right about this. But I took that as Morris' point, not something he overlooked.

The "black America" that is the Black Liberation Theology plantation can no longer have it both ways. Obama cannot "abjectly patronize" them and win. But they (meaning: the racist hate-mongers who make millions off peddling BLT hate) cannot allow him to win because that would demonstrate that whitey is, in fact, not keeping the black man down. So they sabotage his success, all the while they will be the first to charge "racism" when Obama loses.

I think what Obama has done here is decided he's going to have to try to win without them (the black racists) because he can never be what they want him to be.

That's a good thing.

Obama and Wright are using Social Control (manipulation of the masses) to get this thing wrapped up before general election, its JUST WORDS.

I don’t know that this isn’t a plot, but I just don’t think so. Both Obama and Wright have too much to lose in this game.

If Obama were to win and then blow off Wright, the lucrative black racist industry would be dealt a strong blow.
