Can America Survive $5-a-gallon at the Pump?

Posted on 04/30/2008 7:19:14 PM PDT by Charles Bronson Forever

Absolutely, but very tough times are ahead. Really, how the hell are we gonna get out of this mess unless we drill and refine at home? When is Washington going to do something? Easy. When WE do something about it.

Can America survive federal government at %3 trillion a year? $6 trillion by 2011?

Gas is cheap.

If we start buying less gas then it’ll reduce the tax revenues the government gets, perhaps that’ll get their attention (or they’ll just raise the taxes to compensate).

It might. We sure need to get their attention somehow.

Yeah, great leadership we’ve got:

Let’s all send our money directly to terrorists, every week.

If we have any left — let’s send that to Communists.

Strengthen the dollar and build more refineries first. Drilling here on our territory is implied but that takes longer.

I saw on CNN someone speculating on $7.00/gallon within a year. They are saying that if there is not huge reduction in gasoline useage, the price will go on a rapid increase upward.

Gas is cheap? GAS IS CHEAP???

Excuse me?

Try telling that those of us who are being killed financially by the rising prices at the pump. And don't give me this "adjusted for inflation" bullcrap. All I know is that now, instead of taking $5.00 to get 5 gallons of gas now it takes almost $20.00 and that is something my pocketbook, and the pocketbook of millions of others, can't handle.

And why is this happening?

It's because we have a bunch of yellow spined cowardly socialists in Congress who are more worried about sucker fish and kangaroo rats than they are about drilling right in our own back yard to accomodate our need for oil.

It's because of FEAR of what is happening overseas in the Middle East, fear of what Iran is doing, fear of the rebels in Nigeria, FEAR FEAR FEAR!

Gas is cheap, MY ARSE!

“Gas is cheap.”

I agree gas is cheap for what it does and compared to the alternatives and as a part of the aggregate spend. What is crazy is what happens when we export petro-dollars. It causes all kinds of problems with our economy and monetary system. And causes the entire economies of some parts of the Country to become welfare mothers living off gubmint handouts.

Yes, if you talk Survival.

No, if you talk continuing your life as usual.

They CNN is political. Only a supply beyond what is demanded at the desired price will result in the desired price.

I disagree that gas is cheap, and the consequences of insanely priced gas are even less cheap. I have stopped buying almost everything but energy and food, and I would guess many in my income bracket have done the same.

My husband has a Prius that he bought because he likes driving a hybrid (quiet, cool technology, not for global warming).

However, with this gas increase I think I need to start driving it more. I drive our mini-van, and I am spending so much at the pump. I think I need to drive the Prius more on weekends.

Sad. I’d find a new occupation.

For what we have to do to make sure America can get oil...gas is cheap. What you pay at the pump is only a part of the price.

You got the send part wrong, the politicians are selling our roads, to the oil countries, as fast as they can. So they are collecting a lot more of it here.
