The Pentagon has ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran, CBS reported Tuesday, as a second US aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf. According to the report, the planning was being driven by what one officer called the "increasingly hostile role" Iran is playing in Iraq - smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said that "what the Iranians are doing is killing American servicemen and -women inside Iraq."
CBS said that US officials were also concerned by Iranian harassment of US ships in the Persian Gulf as well as Iran's still growing nuclear program. The television channel cited new pictures of Iran's uranium enrichment plant which showed the country's defense minister in the background, in an apparent deliberate attempt to mock the recent New Intelligence Estimate which said Iran had ceased work on a nuclear weapon.
Last week, Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen warned Iran not to assume the US military can't strike. Targets would include everything from the plants where weapons are made to the headquarters of the organization known as the Quds Force which directs operations in Iraq, CBS reported. Later this week Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is expected to confront the Iranians with evidence of their involvement in fueling the Iraq insurgency and demand a halt.
If that doesn't produce results, continued the report, the State Department has begun drafting an ultimatum that would tell the Iranians to cease their activities - or else.
Gates said Tuesday that sending a second US aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf could serve as a "reminder" to Iran, but he said it's not an escalation of force.

As soon as the Pentagon creates those war plans CBS will leak them to our enemies.

Our current plan vis-a-vis Iran is to let them kill as many US military people as they like, and do it with total impunity.

Since there are some decent Iranians being led by fanatics we should limit our response to targets that serve a purpose and notice, at the same time. And when they bitch about it, hit 'em again.
No ground troops this time, we do it by air. B1 and B2 baby. At four bucks a gallon for gas I want to see some pyrotechnics.
Sitting on top a pile of oil (that makes the world go round) is an important role that must not be taken lightly. Religion has it's place but market forces can and will trump it, eventually. Fighting and dying in streets to thwart a force that cannot be thwarted belies any evidence of a brain.
The Free Market delivers whatever is demanded by consumers. The trigger is: (prepare yourself) PRICE. The prices we pay for gas today are a direct reflection of our 'representatives' derelictness to duty in forming alternative energy sources such as nuclear energy, etc. The arabs wouldn't have us over this barrel if we hadn't dropped the ball.
As long as they multi pass copy them, and fax them from Abeline, it'll be OK!

One can only imagine the early retirements among the commissioned ranks, the drop in re-enlistments, and the failure to recruit new members if this sorry bag becomes the CIC.

What a bunch of crap... Yes, we just come up with new plans to attack a country just on a whim. Since attack plans can be developed and implemented in about 12 minutes between commercials of american idol.
