The May issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands tomorrow, but it's already made the cover of the New York Post. The issue features a photograph of Miley Cyrus, star of the Disney Channel's mega-hit Hannah Montana, clutching a satin sheet to her otherwise naked torso. Cyrus quickly disavowed the photograph, which was taken by Annie Liebovitz: "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she said in a statement. "I never intended for any of this to happen, and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about." Disney, for its part, shared Cyrus' outrage. Disney spokeswoman Patti McTeague told the New York Times that "a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines."
Reading McTeague's comment over coffee yesterday morning, I couldn't help but think of an advertisement I'd seen a few months ago while on a reporting trip to China. I was walking from my Beijing bed-and-breakfast to a nearby subway station when I was stopped in my tracks by a billboard that made the controversial 1990s Calvin Klein underwear ads look artistic by comparison. Staring down at the throngs of shoppers on Beijing's Xinjiekou Nandajie Avenue, a busy commercial thoroughfare about a mile west of the Forbidden City, was a white girl who looked all of 12, reclining in a matching bra-and-panties set adorned with Disney's signature mouse-ear design. In a particularly creepy detail, the pigtailed child was playing with a pair of Minnie Mouse hand puppets. In the upper left-hand corner was the familiar script of the Disney logo.

Pot meet Kettle.
Looks like the little girl is into bondage too. ;)
Anything at all with the Disney name/logo, etc. involved should be outlawed by each and every parent, not to mention immature adults who sport their clothing items as "pseudo-chic.'
Which satellite t.v. station is it that has "No Undies Mondays" kids' shows?
“Disney, the gay, pornographic, child sex network!”
The pro terrorist network too, they own ABC which has done its part to hurt the war effort.
Notice how silent they were about “farfur the mouse?”
They made their millons with Miley, she will most likely spiral into self destruction, mean while, disney will scope out another child actor to use and take advantage of for money.
I freakin HATE disney and their liberal, pansy, gay crap.
Please, please tell me you’re not serious. I wonder what pedo came up with that idea?
There’s a lot of this being reported...AND displayed.
This is not a sudden development; from the child beauty pageants to the teen modeling sites on the internet, the growth of the youthful adult market is not new. It’s been growing for years.
The continual reporting of improper relations is something that has me wondering. Instead of shaming the person, I wonder if the evil forces are trying to get us used to the idea of sexualized minors.
We probably won’t see a serious court prosecution until some father emasculates some teacher who messed with his daughter. A juror like me.........I’ll stop here.
I am not kidding, unfortunately.
I thought it was Boomerang, but wasn’t sure. Looked it up and that’s what it is. Great cartoons. Don’t know how or why they did it.
I’m not sure what the big deal is. For most of recorded human history across every society many women have tended to give birth at a young age. This has been true up until the last century or so and is still common in many parts of the world. Fact of life, men and women are biologically capable of reproduction much earlier than when modern society deems them to be adults. The media “sexualizing” minors isn’t an “evil force” but rather a throwback to the way it’s always been.
LOL! Good one
Sex tends to lead to babies, though. Modern teenagers aren’t equipped to raise them, let alone support them, so encouraging that behavior is poisonous to civilized modern society.
You are correct sir!
I just wanted to raise the issue that the reasons for people’s present anti-thesis to early sexuality is more social than moral.
But without moral indignation that important social norm is not likely to last. I don’t think abstract appeals to support the good of the society would cut it.
Perhaps, if they stopped killing female children or allowed more than one child this might stop.
As I recall, in ancient Rome (Caesars time), 18 was considered to be the appropriate age for marriage and sex to begin. I believe this is when and where western ideas on this have their roots. This tradition then carried over with the Roman empires conversion to Christianity.
Corrupt the young, get them away from religion. Get them interested in sex. Make them superficial, and destroy their ruggedness. Get control of all means of publicity, and thereby get the peoples’ mind off their government by focusing their attention on athletics, sexy books and plays, and other trivialities. Divide the people into hostile groups by constantly harping on controversial matters of no importance.
— Vladimir Ilich Lenin
Are you really so gullinble that you believe that is genuine?
“... Destroy the people’s faith in their natural leaders by holding up the latter to ridicule, contempt and obloquy. Always preach true democracy, but seize power as fast and as ruthlessly as possible. Encourage government extravagance, destroy its credit, produce fear with rising prices, inflation and general discontent. Foment unnecessary strikes in vital industries, encourage civil disorders and foster a soft and lenient attitude on the part of government towards such disorders. By specious argument cause the breakdown of the old moral virtues: honesty, sobriety, continence, faith in the pledged word, ruggedness. Cause the registration of all firearms on some pretext, with the view of confiscating them and leaving the population defenseless.”
Yes, I regret that I am really so gullible as to believe that is genuine.
The big deal is not the young, it’s the young combined with the sleaze, the anti-religious behavior, the abortions and the failures of virtue that are the problem.
If you have virtue, the young would get married before they had children....they would not have bones in their noses while slutting their weekends away. They would be serious workers.
Care to argue that?
Look at the points:
1. Get peoples minds off their government by focusing their attention on athletics, sexy books and plays and other trivialities. [Liberal - not necessarily communist]
2. Divide the people into hostile groups by constantly harping on controversial matters of no importance. [Liberal/Clintonian all the way]
3. Destroy the peoples faith in their leaders by holding them up to contempt, ridicule and obliquity. [Liberal/Clintonian all the way]
4. Always preach true democracy, but, seize power as fast and as ruthlessly as possible. [Liberal/Clintonian all the way]
5. By encouraging government extravagance, destroy its credit, produce fear of inflation with rising prices and general discontent.[Liberal/Clintonian all the way]
6. Foment unnecessary strikes in vital industries, encourage civil disorders and foster lenient and soft attitudes on the part of the government towards such disorders. [Liberal/Clintonian all the way]
7. By specious argument, cause the breakdown of the old moral virtues of honesty, sobriety, continence, faith in the pledged word. [Liberal/Clintonian, Kennedian all the way]
Wait a minute. Maybe it was Bill and Hillary that said all this...not Lenin. Or maybe...
“No undies Monday” is in reference to characters (like Bugs Bunny, etc.) who do not wear pants.
If that’s true it’s quite a relief.
