Let's Put this Freepathon to Rest
My own thoughts... | 05/01/08 | DoughtyOne

Posted on 05/01/2008 11:41:37 AM PDT by DoughtyOne

Hello Folks:

It's May 1st and I'd like to ask you for a little help. The current Freepathon started on April 1st. Here we are a month later and the total given or pledged is sputtering toward the finish line. I appreciate everyone's constributions to date. It's impressive that we come together like this to support the forum. Despite the great job that has been done, I still think we can do better.

We are still thousands from the goal. I'd like to put a big dent in the amount remaining to be covered. Will some of you please join me to end this today.

As soon as I hit the post key, I am going to contribute $100 more to the Freepathon. I would appreciate it if others would join me, and we could retire this Freepathon by late this afternoon.

Those who can, please join me with $100. Those who can't, how about $50 or $25.

We're not that far from the goal. A little over Fifty of us could end this thing. Are there fifty of you out there willing to join me?

How about it?

Thanks in advance to those who do join me. I appreciate it and I know Jim and John will also.

I’ve given a couple of times in the past, but am starting to wonder about the high $$ amount shown as spending on monthly “administration and programming expenses”. Perhaps others would be more generous if they better understood where their money was going.

Just returned from making the additional donation.

Let’s put this sucker to rest. How about it folks?

Bud, if you have doubts, don’t support the forum.

Folks, I’m not here to explain why it costs what it doest to run the forum.

I’m here to ask for some help.

If you value the forum and wish to help out, that would be nice.

If you have concerns about things and don’t want to support the forum, please move on.

The big problem is the legal threat from users posting copywrited material. Those users don't have legal exposure, but JimRob and FR are devastatingly exposed to it. They receive constant "cease and desist" warnings over the posting of such material, inadvertent or otherwise. It's been an ongoing battle to constantly monitor content in order to prevent further litigation.

It's kind of like funding a disaster-response team.

Needless to say they have to watch posts like a hawk to keep on top of things. I'm surprised "administration" expenses aren't higher.

I'm a monthly myself.

If you appreciate what the site stands for and what it has to offer in the way of up to date news, troop support, conversation with like-minded people and prayer support and comfort, it’s easy to see that a couple dollars per person per month is little to pay for what you get in return.

Cheaper than a daily, liberal-rag newspaper.

I’ve been here since before the fundraising threads started. Heck, I helped get them started.

Simple math shows that if we had 800 donors who gave a dollar a day, we wouldn’t even need to run fundraising threads.

Right now we’re just a few signups shy of 300,000 members. Granted, some of those have left and others have been banned, but we should be able to end this thing today.

i’m a monthly, but I’ll throw another $20 into the kitty.

Seriously folks, we’re talking about the price of a sixpack or a carton of smokes and you get to keep FR around so we can all keep up with the stuff which is important in society. Is it really that hard to do? Or do we have to force JimRob to start putting banner ads on the site and annoying everybody?

Just added to my previous donation in order to help put this baby to rest, oh, and also to bump Utah up past Minnesota and Arkansas on the list of donations by state!! Challenge to other states...... (see who can catch up with CA and TX, ha ha)..... :^)

C’mon folks, it’s a good time to help put the Freepathon total over the top!

Oh drat. I was hoping folks wouldn’t mention Texas. I’m in California and I had hoped we could do this without them, so my state could remain number one.

Come on California. Texas... nevermind... ;-)

I didn't say I don't want to support the forum, and I have indeed given support and will again. I simply state that's it's helpful to sometimes explain to folks where their money goes... it's the Democrats who always want more and refuse to tell you why.

Just donated the equivalent of a dollar a day.

Every little bit helps, folks. If you can only do 10 bucks, then do 10 bucks. Something really is better than nothing.

Just imagine having to endure the reign of Obama or Hillary (or... *shudder* both) without this site.

If you would like to find out what these funds support, please start here.

I don’t have a problem with telling you, but that isn’t what this thread is about.

This thread is about one Freeper asking other Freepers to help him with a specific request.

If you need more info, please check out the normal Freepathon threads. There’s information related to your request on them.
