Do the right thing and shut up, Lee urges pastor
Guardian UK ^ | May 1, 2008 | Xan Brooks

Director Spike Lee has waded into the controversy surrounding Jeremiah Wright, the Chicago pastor whose provocative statements have proved a thorn in the side of Democrat frontrunner Barack Obama. Lee advises the preacher to do the right thing and keep quiet. "The more he opens his mouth, the more damage he does," he told the Guardian.

For good measure, Lee hinted at a political conspiracy behind Wright's recent, contentious attempts to justify his remarks. "It looks like he's being paid to keep talking," he said.

"Jeremiah Wight needs to be quiet," Lee said yesterday. "If he loves Obama he needs to shut up right now. It makes me question his motives for talking. I'm starting to wonder whether somebody has been contributing to the building funds of his church. Seriously."

Lee, whose best-known films have frequently tackled the issue of race relations in the US, believes that Obama had hoped to survive the presidential contest without talking about race. "But now he's been forced to by a combination of Jeremiah Wright and the Clintons," he said.

The director of Malcolm X and When the Levees Broke is an ardent Obama supporter. "I love him," he said. "He's a unifier. He's the one who can get us out of the situation we're in today, because this country is going to hell in a handcart."

Lee will be at the Cannes film festival next week as jury president of the Babelgum film festival. He will also be promoting his latest feature, Miracle at St Anna, a story of black American soldiers in the second world war. He compares America's international standing now with its high water mark in the mid-1940s. "The way the US is viewed around the world is at its lowest point ever," he claimed. "But Obama will change everything."

I agree.

Rev. Wright's absurd speech - I did not listen to all of it since his delivery is too annoying - might be the result of
*Hillary buying him off,
*his desire to keep Obama from winning since that would go counter to much that he has been preaching, and/or
*seeking publicity, and/or
*wanting to promote his forthcoming book - allegedly he has a book deal.

“He compares America's international standing now with its high water mark in the mid-1940s.”

I wonder if Spike stops to think exactly what America was doing back then. We were not just fighting two countries, but three, and in the process invading a whole continent, not with a few hundred thousand troops, but with millions. We were firebombing cities, killing untold numbers of civilians, and even using atomic weapons on two Japanese cities. But we were liberating the world from the scourge of totalitarian rulers who waged war on others in the process, and the world was grateful.

We are doing much the same thing today, on a much lesser scale militarily, with a much lower loss of life, yet the world hates us. Interesting, isn't it?

"He's a unifier." . . . Evidence to the contrary notwithstanding.

I think Wright is Obama’s “operative”....and if Obama were elected, he’s be Secretary of State or something.....it allows Obama to waste time on the poor bully....whom he would immediately “forgive” upon his election.

We all know that Black Americans vote Democratic to the tune of 90%. BUT, isn't there something racist about 90% of the Black vote going to the Black candidate in a Democratic Primary?

Am I right or wrong?

I think Jeremiah Wright is enjoying all the free publicity he’s getting to espouse his Black Liberation Theology views.

I don’t think he’s gonna shut up. What say ye?

A “unifier”??? There is not record of him ever reaching across the aisle in the IL State Senate or the U.S. Senate, no record whatsoever.

I LOVE YOUR TAGLINE ! ! ! Very witty play on words. I remember the Goldwater slogan from 1964.

"The way the US is viewed around the world is at its lowest point ever,"

Spike, with all the recent elections of pro-U.S. conservative governments in Canada, France, Italy, The U,K., South Korea etc, you can't really be that stupid, can you?

What's that Spike?

You say you're not stupid, you are just lying again?

Okay then. I was starting to get concerned.

One racist race-baiting leftist sees right through another one.......

Spike Lee ‘knows’ that a radical brother would not sell out another brother except for a really good price.
