Voters Skeptical of Obama's Outrage With Wright
US News and World Report ^ | 5/2/08 | Michael Barone

Posted on 05/02/2008 11:02:44 AM PDT by Dawnsblood

Will Barack Obama's longtime connection to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright continue to hurt him? Evidence that it will comes from pollster Scott Rasmussen, who finds that only 30 percent of likely voters say Obama denounced Wright because he was outraged, while 58 percent believe he denounced him for political convenience. Only 33 percent believe Obama was surprised by Wright's statements at the National Press Club, while 52 percent say he was not surprised. Some 26 percent say it's very likely that Obama "shares some of Pastor Wright's controversial views about the United States" and 56 percent say it's somewhat likely he does. Only 7 percent of voters and 12 percent of black voters say they share those views. Ouch! These results are more adverse than I would have expected.

I believe that Obama believes what Wright believes.

Nothing to see here. The Wright issue is old news. Move along.

As an aside, I think Obama’s “break” with “Rev” Wright is pure political theater. Wright has been warning Obama he would have to break with him for over two decades. It appears Obama is finally taking his advice. I have a feeling that Wright’s National Press Club rant was either prearranged, or at least a clear signal to Obama that it was time for him to take the reverend’s advice:
“When Barack Obama met Rev. Jeremiah Wright in 1985, the pastor warned the young community organizer that he might want to distance himself from such a rabble-rouser. Obama didn’t listen. Until now.”

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/religion_theseeker/2007/03/hallelujah_bara.html

“Rev. WRIGHT: They’re going to associate your name with mine, and that could be detrimental, I told him back then. It holds just as true, even more so, now.”

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics/week1028/newsfeature.html

“If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” Mr. Wright said with a shrug. “I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/30/us/politics/30obama.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all&oref=login&oref=slogin

ps The decision to have Wright repeat his rants at the National Press Club to set the stage for the “final” and dramatic break could well blow up in their faces. Be that as it may, and seeing how B. Hussein Obama will almost certainly go to the convention ahead of Billary, I think their political calculation was to get this behind them before the general to prevent conservative 527-types (as opposed to “reluctant” RINOs like McCain) from ripping them to shreds in the general. However, if the press starts asking B. Hussein Obama questions about “Rev” Wright’s advice (links in #2), it will only serve to make Obama appear even MORE suspicious (I know it’s hard to imagine, but if people start thinking that there is a good possibility that the “break” with Wright was done in collusion, it will make Obama look even more sinister and subversive than he appears now).

Step back.

Would America really elect an “Osama Hussein” while we are in the middle of a war with Islamic radicals?

I can’t believe we will.

Nina Easton, of Brit’s Panel, declared that this was Obama’s Sister Souljah moment...”no, even better than a Sister Souljah moment,” she said.

Didn't Senator B.(whose middle name must NEVER be spoken) Obama defiantly state (paraphrasing) that,,,

"I can no longer disown, Rev. Wright, than I could disown my black race, or my own grandmother"?

I think Obama’s “break” with “Rev” Wright is pure political theater.

I had said, on the day of his latest "denouncement", that if Wright went away quietly, then it was staged, and not very well staged.

If Wright had reacted AGAIN to his statements being called a "rant", then it might have been real.

Given that Wright has gone away quietly, I tend to agree with you - it's a Wright-wing conspiracy.

I don't know. The ‘Wright issue’ may be the wedge that Conservatives can drive into the African-American voting monolith.

That's how I see it. It was going to happen and no one knew how, but there it is... a real chink in their armor. Finally.... now, maybe the system can work the way our founding fathers intended. National elections do this and maybe it's good that it works that way. Off with the old on with the new.

It's time that the race issue is neutralized as the ‘spoiler’ in American politics... past time, actually.

After all, if you remember, the US/Vietnam national nightmare (though not resolved) went a long way to resolution when Kerry tried once too often to run HIS particular game on the American voters...!!

"Voters Skeptical of Obama's Outrage With Wright" They should be, because Obama distances himself from racists, anti-Semites, and Catholic-hating bigots only when they become more trouble then they are worth. Recall that Tim Russert and Hillary Clinton had to corner him like a rat before he would reject Farrakhan's endorsement. Otherwise, he seeks out their endorsements while praising and promoting them.

God BLESS America, McCain 2008!

So what's the logic behind Mayor Mike...to bring in the Jewish vote? Big biz? Non-smoking nuts? Anti-transfat protesters?

As I type, caller asking Rush about Peter Paul!

Enjoyed your posts. The way he said, “I’m coming after you Barack” sounded canned and theatrical even for him, a shade too clever. Throwing down in public that gauntlet, calling Barack out like that, is potent symbolism for the gullible crowds.

Don't let the MSM get you down. They are doing there thing to get Obama elected, and we need to bypass the MSM to BRING HIM DOWN! The real cynical parasites are Obama, Wright and the other hard-left political gremlins hellbent on destroying the land of the free. And the sooner we wake the American people up to this fact, the sooner we can consign Obama (and Clinton) to the dustbin of political losers (of course, that's where they will be consigned even if they win, but you get my point :o)

Way-ll, I think Obama sat in those pews for 20 years because the good Rev is a damned entertaining preacher. He probably believed some of what he said, knew better than the rest.

I think Obama sat in those pews because of Michelle. That’s her ‘schtick’. This thing with Rev. Wright was a setup.

Keep in mind that Michelle has known Bill Ayers and Bernadette Dorhn from at least 1988. This connection between Black Liberation Theology and radical left activists has now been broken wide open by David Horowitz. You’ll not find it covered by the MSM at all, but I bet Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh will start bringing it out into the open, followed by Bill O’Reilly.

Time will tell.

I'm regaining my trust in the American people

Brings a smile to the face...

I've been pilloried, vilified and otherwise been branded all sorts of wild things for disagreeing with Rush's Project Chaos.

I've been a fan for decades - but I disagree with him on this (which is like touching the third rail, I'm finding out) =

I still believe that honesty is the best policy, and this maneuver is not only not honest, but leaves everyone wondering how many votes for hitlery are really valid. Indeed, the DNC and their powers that be may be discounting much of hitlery's showing as bogus pubbie votes that won't be there in the fall. Therefore, that may the reason they are intent on making obamama the nominee - even tho' he well may have self-destructed - and may yet...please God.

I guess I lean more towards the Wm. Buckley way of dealing with the enemy: State the truth, point out the obvious, and leave it up to the people to do the right thing.

That all being said, may the people continue to see through the dog and pony show that is obamama and his revered mentor and the Polished Programmed Puppet crash and burn...and may the destruction follow back along the strings and take down his puppet masters - or they will be back in the near future with another puppet.

a clear signal to Obama that it was time for him to take the reverend’s advice:

And the Rev WRong gave a signal to the voters and all the Black Liberationists when he said Obama ( wink-wink) has to say whatever he needs to get elected.

The man even smirked as he emphasized it - Making the point to the Black Liberationists - remember, he's just saying what Whitey wants to hear...but he's still with us, never fear.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OPERATION CHAOS OPERATIVES:
DO NOT VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON!

SHE WILL BE A TOUGHER CANDIDATE IN THE FALL.
OBAMA NEEDS TO BE THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE.
HE WILL NOT BE ELECTED. POLLS ARE BIASED (THE WILDER/BRADLEY EFFECT) BUT HE WILL BE A WEAK CANDIDATE.

WE CANNOT RISK THE CLINTONS BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE. DO *NOT* VOTE FOR HILLARY.
