The Senate has unanimously declared John McCain a natural-born citizen, eligible to be president of the United States.
That is the good news for the presumptive Republican nominee, who was born nearly 72 years ago in a military hospital in the Panama Canal Zone, then under U.S. jurisdiction. The bad news is that the nonbinding Senate resolution passed Wednesday night is simply an opinion that has little bearing on an arcane constitutional debate that has preoccupied legal scholars for many weeks.

Where’s the “Not this s***t again” guy?
Since I was born in the “Hawaiian Territories”, does that make me ineligible? I don’t think so.
Proof positive that neither of them have ever read the Constitution. Then again, most libs have not.
Hmmm......if they’re kicking this around, they’re even more desperate than I thought.
The dream scenario:
1. McCain picks Duncan Hunter as his VP.
2. McCain/Hunter win the general election.
3. McCain is tossed out by the Supremes for not being a “naturalized citizen”.
4. President Hunter chooses a new VP.
(I know. #1 ain’t gonna happen.)
How about an un-elected co-president returning to the White House? How about a former president who served two elected terms returning for 4 or 8 years as un-elected co-president?
Talk about unconstitutional...
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The Times tried this s**t a few weeks ago. Let's just see the Dems try to disqualify the children of active duty servicemen and women born abroad from being President. It'll be fun to watch. (And yes, I know that the Canal Zone wasn't really abroad back then).
The Senate is 218 years behind the times.
This is a Democrat political stunt.

And yet it is “xenophobic” to discuss Obama’s studies abroad as a young muslim.
Neither will #3. The Dems are gonna lose with Obama and we'll be spending the next four years complaining about President McCain's policies.
Ah, there he is. Thanks.
To a lib, the Constitution only means what the current supreme court says it means.
Who do you think he’ll pick for VP?
I like yours even better!
LOL It’s not stirring anything except with those who are desparate to find some way to knock McCain out.
#3 isn't going to happen either.
Pawlenty or Romney. It would have been Jindal if he had won the first time he ran for LA gov and that would have been the Dream Team electorally. Still might happen but I doubt it.
I have always liked John McCain. Had my primary vote in 2000 meant anything, i would have voted for him then. But I will be honored to vote for him this election.
In the interest of reaching out .... Jeremiah Wright.
We may be seeing him a lot more in the next 4 years.
“Since I was born in the Hawaiian Territories, does that make me ineligible? I dont think so.”
This very same issue was raised with Barry Goldwater in 1964. Goldwater was born in Arizona in 1909 but Arizona didn’t become a state until 1912.
If the stakes weren’t so high, this would be yet another laughing matter like every ‘issue’ the liberals raise.
lolz
For the Win
I love it...
The Libs heads will explode after we “steal” the Presidency again —
1. We denied the Affirmation Action candidate OBAMA from winning.
2. We did it with an illegal alien as our candidate.
3. We did it by trashing a black man, his pastor and his wife.
4. We did it by trashing ALL his Leftist, Racist, terrorist and militant Islamic friends.
5. We did it by casting aspersions on his integrity, believing him to be a Muslim in Christian clothing.
6. We poked fun at him for holding his crotch rather that saluting the American Flag.
7. We did it with an old fart - who is a war monger, and their previously favorite RINO.
The smarmy bastards will go nuts!
And no, I do not think McCain will pick Romney. There is still too much bad blood between them. More importantly, there is too much ego on McCain's part to pick anyone who would show him up. My guess is that he goes with someone who generates few negatives and is idealogically dull-- someone who won't overshadow McCain. Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota, or Charlie Crist of Florida would be my guess.
Ditto that! This is such a non-entity. What a useless waste of space, time and energy.
Romney standing next to McCain makes McCain look like an old, senile, shriveled up, namby-pamby dwarf. At the very least, McCain would need to stand on a two-foot stool in an overstuffed suit.
I thought about posting it but then I knew I'd get some help. ..lots of help for this new old story.
Since I was born in the Hawaiian Territories, does that make me ineligible? I dont think so.
>>This very same issue was raised with Barry Goldwater in 1964. Goldwater was born in Arizona in 1909 but Arizona didnt become a state until 1912.
Interesting. I wasn’t familiar with Goldwater’s case. I’ve always been interested in this specific issue because I was born when MarineDad was stationed at Kaneohe, and Hawaii hadn’t become a state yet.
My entire life I’ve been told by everyone who has cared to give an opinion that the child of an American GI, who is born overseas because the GI is stationed overseas, is eligible to run for president. US Military bases are considered to be soverign US territory.
Isn’t that what McCain’s situation is?
;->
The VP decision has already been made!! and the candidate didn’t deny it when interviewed on FOX. It’s Gov. Crist of Florida, a very popular Gov. who WILL deliver Florida with a good margin.
HA!

"I took Panama . . . matter closed!"
A "naturalized citizen" is not eligible. They are an immigrant.
He must be a native born. Being born of Service members, diplomats and so forth in a military hospital qualifies as native born.
Crist is a two-bit hack who does nothing for the ticket and will make Floridians nostalgic for Jeb Bush. Republicans can’t win without Florida any more than Democrats can’t win without Pennsylvania. If McCain can’t carry Florida without Crist, he will cede Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and possibly even Iowa. But at least his VP won’t show him up.
It doesn’t matter WHERE McCain was born. His parents were U.S. citizens. That makes him a natural born U.S. Citizen.
Anyone arguing the case that McCain is ineligible is an idiot.
Has anyone actually verified Obama’s past?
I thought you just had to be born a citizen, not in the borders of the continental US. I mean doesn’t his parents make him a citizen?? I’m confused.
Actually I can see what Dems are up to on this one.
Down the road they will call fair when they run an anchor baby for office
Isn’t the gov a little, shall we say, limp in the wrist?
Exactly. And to put it in even simpler terms so that they can understand it:
Is McCain a naturalized citizen? No? Then he is native born.
McCain should just give up since he has no chance of winning the nomination against Mitt Romney.
Sheesh. No wonder some people call him Myth Romney. Despite spending a mountain of money, Romney got his butt kicked by the "old, senile, shriveled up, namby-pamby dwarf."
I don't think that McCain will pick Romney because other than his checkbook, Romney doesn't bring a lot to the table to help McCain win in November.
of course most libs have NOT read the consitution.
Otherwise, they would not insist that it says what it doesn’t say (right to privacy) and doesn’t say what it says (right to bear arms).
“Its Gov. Crist of Florida,...”
That ought to give new life to Brokeback Moutain.
Hard for a lib to read a moving living object.
How about kids born in Japan Germany etc to American Service men or to families stationed abroad —I am sure they have been voting as has McCain in our elections
Right. I meant native born citizen.
Will you be bringing your “Save the Rino” sign to the convention?
There are lots of people I like who I wouldn’t want anywhere near the White House except as tourists. I’ll vote for McCain unless a better alternative presents itself. Just don’t expect me to be “honored” to do it - I’ll be holding my nose all the way.
Why can’t we get someone same to run as a 3rd party candidate, like Ross Perot. /sarc
