When Zachary Cataldo's daycare provider picked him up after school on Monday at Piedmont Avenue Elementary in North Oakland, she found him lying on the ground. An older kid had apparently slammed the 7-year-old into a tree, and he was too dizzy to stand up, according to Zachary's aunt, Janine Cataldo. Zachary was admitted to the intensive care unit of Children's Hospital-Oakland with a fractured skull and was released last night, Cataldo said.
It wasn't the first time the boy was attacked at school. Cataldo said her nephew's front teeth were knocked out last year, when he was in kindergarten, and that he has been a regular target for bullies.

The public schools are such an obvious failure, it can be fun to point out the absurd results. But in cases like this, it’s so sad and even tragic, there’s no satisfaction in telling its supporters, “See, I told you so.”
If this isn’t a reason to homeschool, there is no reason to homeschool.
Those Obuma supporters are out of control and this littl boy is a victim.
What a freaking shame that this crap is paramount in the USA.

Time to call the lawyers...they can’t make the kids behave.

Zachary Cataldo
What a cuty. Poor little guy. Time to move him to a private school, or homeschool him.
(He looks quite abit like my husband when he was young-just change the coloring)
Is the bully in trouble?
I’m not against homeschool, but I think the bullies should be kicked out of public/private school. Send them to military school. Why should the good kids have to leave? Also fine the parents for bad parenting.

Zachary, with his dad, doing his homework.
The last I have read, they do not know who the other kid is as of yet?
The parents of the kid who was beaten should sue the pants off the parents of the bully.
This sounds familiar. About 50, maybe or more years ago, this older kid Allen Camp used to slap me around and punch me. After a few encounters my Dad said if I didn’t let this kid know I wasn’t going to take any more, he’d hurt me worse that Allen ever could. Thereupon he taught me a few few quick boxing techniques, being a fan of the Friday Night Fights. The next time this guy messed with me I decked him with 2 quick punches. A few days later I ran into him and immediately let him have a few. My Dad said I could stop , he got the point. Allen never came near me again. A Dad teaches his boys these and many other important lessons. We need a movement to bring back Dads. Make them important again, not just sperm vessels. Ah, but I digress...
White kid, in a majority-minority school.
Reverse the races, and this story would be leading all the network news breaks.
That school is lucky it wasn't my child..you can't even imagine the chaos I would have caused at that school!!
He is a cute boy. I just want to hug him. My kids would never bully a child. As a matter of fact they all defend them when they see others mistreat them. It was the way I raised them to be.
They are probably jealous the kid a) has a dad and b) does homework.
Imagine that, a boy with a present father. I bet the kid that hurt him has no father.
LOL!
In before the public school defenders say that this kid needs to stop being such a wuss and learn to stand up for himself.
Yeah, my husband is coming home from work every day telling about the latest beating up going on in the office. Adults act like that all the time. It's the real world, dontcha know?
Actually, what public school defenders usually say is the problem could be fixed with more tax money and more control of the kids.
Here’s some more of that “socialization” that public education blesses the kids with.
As we can see in that photo, Dad is already there with him to help with homework. It doesn’t have to take any more time to homeschool than the amount of time it normally takes schoolkids to do their homework. It’s time to remove this child from that school and educate elsewhere. There’s no other way to ensure his safety.
As police investigate the case, which began with a hospital-room interview of Zachary on Tuesday morning, Cataldo has mixed feelings about the fate of the boy he believes slammed Zachary against a tree.
"Of course I'm mad," Cataldo said, adding that the same boy had tripped a girl from Zachary's day care several months ago. When the girl asked why he'd tripped her, "He punched her in the eye," Cataldo said.
"Obviously, someone's hurting him," said Cataldo, suggesting that any child who goes around hurting other children may be a victim of abuse himself.
"Of course I feel bad, but he hurt my only son. And I'm afraid he's going to hurt someone even more seriously. It's a delicate situation. I definitely believe his parents need to be involved."
How can that be? Kids don’t get expelled any more?
It takes a zillion write ups, and forever, and if the child has an iep pretty much they can’t be expelled.
When I taught the 2nd grade teacher had a kid that made her year misserable. He threw a chair at the aide, punched her in the stomach, had outburst everyday. But he had an iep for Occupational Defiance Dissorder, and other issues, so whenever anything happened, he was send with the aide to “calm down” then returned. She ended that year with 6 students besides this one in her class, the other 15 were pulled and put into private school, after they all complained, threatened to sue, etc.
(there are such people!??)
That is CRAZY.
ack, oppositional difiance dissorder, always screw that up...
