You Get the Politicians You Pay For
Right Angles

By Noam Neusner
Thu. Apr 10, 2008

“...Elected leaders themselves complain rightly that their wages for public service, combined with strict rules governing outside sources of income, make politics a rich man’s sport. How would you like to maintain two homes, travel frequently between them, and maintain an outwardly semi-prosperous existence, all on the congressional salary of $170,000 a year? ...

(And if that’s true, who in their right mind would give up a lucrative, successful career to enter into politics, I wonder?)

I wonder to Fred. Of course they get the best of health care, perks of all kinds. Probably never pay for a meal on the road, and often lucrative deals on the side to make money, say millions. I have yet to see a poor US Senator or House of Representative, that has stayed around for a few terms. Of course I only speak for those in the USA.
