You Get the Politicians You Pay For

“...Elected leaders themselves complain rightly that their wages for public service, combined with strict rules governing outside sources of income, make politics a rich mans sport. How would you like to maintain two homes, travel frequently between them, and maintain an outwardly semi-prosperous existence, all on the congressional salary of $170,000 a year? ...
(And if that’s true, who in their right mind would give up a lucrative, successful career to enter into politics, I wonder?)
I wonder to Fred. Of course they get the best of health care, perks of all kinds. Probably never pay for a meal on the road, and often lucrative deals on the side to make money, say millions. I have yet to see a poor US Senator or House of Representative, that has stayed around for a few terms. Of course I only speak for those in the USA.
