A Philadelphia police officer was shot and killed with a military assault rifle late this morning when he confronted at least two robbers who had just held up an Bank of America branch at a Shoprite supermarket in Port Richmond. --snip--- a police spokesman, described one as a man wearing Muslim garb and carrying a shoulder bag.
He said that a second, who might have been a woman, was wearing light brown Muslim garb.
A third possible robber, a man, was described as having worn a dreadlock wig and a construction mask. He had on blue jeans and a flannel shirt

A report this morning said the Officer was shot in the arm and was in serious condition. I was sure he was going to pull thru. I hate when this happens. Prayers for his family.

10 bucks says that it was not “a military assault rifle.”
20 bucks says that the reporter doesn’t know what one is.

Muslim garb? A burka?
During 1960s employees of the MSM used to describe the "anti-war," pro-Ho demonstrators as carrying "red, blue, and yellow" protest banners. A real reporter would have simply said, Viet Cong flags.
Here we go again? I'm guessing, yes. And I say once again, now we know why radical Muslims (males especially) demand burkas be accepted everywhere.

Financing upcoming jihad actions perhaps? Back in the 60’s and early 70’s groups like the SLA and Weather Underground and others robbed banks to get money to finance operations we should ask Obama’s good buddy Ayers for his take on this robbery...

I literally was sitting in my car some hundred feet or so from the entrance to this Shop Rite grocery store. I work at a Home Depot on the other side of this shopping mall's parking lots, and had just finish slopping down some slop from the local MacDonalds. As I sat in the car for a few minutes before starting it to return to work, a black van with sirens and blinking lights came screaming through the parking lot off the local main street next to the shopping mall, and parked at the Shop Rite's main entrance.
It must have been the advance swat team arriving before the horde of regular police cars. I did not make the connection until some ten minutes later inside the Home Depot when a associate told me he was planing on going to the Shop Rite for a bite to eat, but was pursuaded to order a cheese steak with another associate from another place.
The policeman's ambush took place five blocks or so from my store's parking lot.
As for as burkas go. This area has a lot of African Americans and heaven only knows who else sporting the garb, as well as women coming in fully dressed to the feet in black ones.
I hate working in this area. I never feel safe but stay because it is a convenient drive from my home. Philly is one hell of a big traffic jam most of the time.
Prayers up for this policeman's family and friends.

I’m the son of a former Philly cop, and I have two cousins on the force. I also work closely with many officers in my position at the Phillies ballpark. I know that LEO’s are not popular with some segments of the Freeper community, and I also know that there are some bad cops who give the rest a bad name. But in a city such as Philly, where people are killing each other at a dizzying rate, I can’t help but to consider the police as soldiers in a war. My heart goes out to the officer’s family, and to his brothers-in-arms.
I also understand some of the skepticism that I’m reading on this thread that an assault rifle was used. Unfortunately, it looks to be true in this case. The media is sure to cynically exploit this in it’s quest for more gun control.
As for the perps using Muslim garb, quite frankly I’m amazed that this tactic isn’t used more often by criminals. It’s still too un-P.C. to profile, or even look askance at, anyone wearing a blanket with eyeholes.

In Philly, you’d hardly be noticed. And if you were, nobody would want to get involved. And if you shot a cop, so what. (See Mumia, J.)

One of the suspects was apparently shot dead by police not too far away from the crime scene. They caught up to the getaway car just minutes later, an armed suspect got out of the vehicle and was shot dead. As of last night, the cops were looking for one or more additional suspects and thought they had one cornered.
To: papertyger
In the examples the other poster gave, the killers were armed and did not put down their weapons. When a person reaches for or brandishes a gun when confronted by police the result will be getting shot.

Note that I didn't say "always" or "mostly", just making an observation. Then you replied:
What a retarded comment.
To which I supplied evidence that my original comment had some evidence backing it up. I don't see much point to continuing to interact with you on this thread.

What you supplied evidence of is that if you brandish a weapon at officers you have a very high probability of being shot. What you SAID was: "People who kill police officers these days have a significant probability of being shot dead while resisting arrest." Resisting arrest usually won't get a person "shot dead" unless in the course of that resisting the person poses a threat of great bodily harm or death. In retrospect, I should have simply pointed out this distinction instead of just calling your comment "retarded."

I also understand some of the skepticism that Im reading on this thread that an assault rifle was used. Unfortunately, it looks to be true in this case Nope, as usual it was not an assault rifle, nore even an assault weapon as formerly defined by federal law.
It was a semiautomatic SKS type carbine in 7.62x39, about equivalent in "power" to the 30-30, once the most commonly used deer rifle cartridge in the country. It did have a removable magazine, but only one of the two "evil" features required under the old assault weapons ban. It had a bayonet lug, but no other "feature" that would make it an assault weapon, so of course they want to redefine what an assault weapon is, to make it one. It would never be an assault rifle, because those must be select fire, either full auto or burst fire capable. The SKS is neither and is not especially powerful. I didn't even bother to take mine to the latest Texas Cowboy Memorial shoot. I took my semi-auto version of a battle rifle (7.62x51, aka .308) instead. I've got a hunting scope on it, so some politician will probably define it to be a sniper rifle... which of course it could be, as could a Pre WW-II Moison-Nagant, SMLE , or Mauser (the latter two date to pre WW-I, with the Mauser going back to before the Spanish American war. As also could most any scoped deer rifle.

Yo Bill. I live in lower Mayfair. Work at the Home Depot in Port Richmond, a forty second walk across a parking lot to where the bank robbery happened. I was in my car digesting the slop from local MacDonalds as the police vans started to stream into the front entrance of the Shop Rite some hundred feet from where I was parked. Lovely place eh.
I worked at the AT&T Western Electric facilities in Allentown, as well as some of the satellite facilities we rented from March 79 through April 96.
First six years found me working in a budding MOS Poly Cell Design Group. What we created was a new method to quickly build LSI logic. It eventually became called ASIC. In short, I was part of a IC design group. I was my groups RAM/ROM expert.
Moved on to a group on the other side (MicroElectronic) at that point, where we where responsible for implementing a process control system for the fabrication of IC at our site. Networking, UNIX, Database develepment, and maitanance etc..
Then got into two different groups becoming the lone designer of some huge SQL databases. Got the boot in 94.
Needless to say I miss this world. Philly is the pits.
