HONG KONG, May 2 (UPI) -- Russia will deliver to China four battalions of 200-kilometer-range S-300PMU2 surface-to-air missiles this summer, the last batch in a series ordered by China. The first batch of four battalions of the same missiles was delivered in July 2007.
Starting in 1993, China received 12 battalions of S-300 SAMs, four of them S-300PMUs and eight S-300PMU1s. This means there are a total of 20 battalions of S-300 SAMs deployed in China. These missiles are expected to play a major role in China's core air defense system.
These missiles now cover the whole of the Chinese coast facing the Taiwan Strait. Positions previously covered by HQ-2 ground-to-air missiles have been upgraded to S-300 launch positions.

The S-300 is a series of Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems by the Almaz Scientific Industrial Corporation all based on the initial S-300P version. It was developed as a system against aircraft and cruise missiles for the Soviet Anti-Air Defence branch of the military, but later variations were also developed to intercept ballistic missiles.
The closest western equivalent is the United States of America MIM-104 Patriot system. Compared to the Patriot the S-300 is a much larger system with heavier missiles. Both systems can engage multiple targets simultaneously, employ track-via-missile guidance, and rely on a single phased array guidance radar to guide the missiles in the air. Both systems are also mobile. Almaz claims a deployment time of five minutes.[1] Like the Patriot, the S-300 missiles are sealed rounds and require no maintenance over their lifetime.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the United States has a very limited deployment of SA systems, optining instead upon a reliance on interceptor aircraft to interdict hostile air forces. The problem with that is aircrew and aircraft degradation (i.e., fatigue). China has been very candid about building up its military forces to fight the US, which it is on record as saying is its primary military enemy, which it will ultimately fight.
We WILL become militarily engaged with China within 10-20 years; either we join the fight, or we surrender. China is preparing for the fight; I wonder if we are?
Thank you Slick Willy!
There is no way China will ever engage us in a war on our turf.
That’s also why we have 4.5 acres of sovereign territory floating around this earth, ready to strike.
You better read the chicom position papers. Most of the military buildup is in anticipation that they must invade Taiwan once the island declares independence. The chicoms have stated this publicly and cannot back down. Thus most of the military upgrading and modernization assumes the US and Japan will come to Taiwan’s aid. The recent secret sub base on Hainan island is designed to cut off Japanese oil in the event of war over Taiwan and chicom cruise missile sub commanders are instructed to act autonomously if contact with China is broken (chicom assumes US will knock out its command and control). I think the chicom military is ready to use nukes once China is defeated conventionally. Japan is told in so many terms that if she participates in the war and China is losing, nukes will be used to end her existance. Why would the chicoms escalate, simply, a defeat would signal the collapse of China’s central government and China is finished (people will starve in the chaos and breakdown) and will never recover, thus if she is going to die, she will take down Japan and damage the US as much as possible with cruise missile subs. Question is this chicom posturing to add uncertainty for the US and Japanese planners, or is it a real doomsday war plan?
Yes, watch the chinese; but it is again clear that the f***ing russians are not our friends; as many in this site have declared. The russians have never, and will never be our friends; they continue to arm and train all our enemies.
