Pentagon deception, media complicity
The Virginian/Virginian Pilot ^ | 5/4/2008 | Moneyrunner

Posted on 05/04/2008 7:48:42 AM PDT by moneyrunner

As their stranglehold on information is loosened, the MSM reacts more and more rabidly to alternative voices. Having set themselves in opposition to the Administration on the war, they profess to be outraged that the Pentagon has tried to bypass the media in getting its story out.

Which gets me to the Virginian Pilot’s Joyce Hoffman (“public editor”) second-hand smear of the Pentagon. She refers to a “staggering breach of public trust by Pentagon leaders,” designed to “sabotage traditional journalism.” Traditional journalism has done a remarkable job sabotaging itself in my lifetime so no help is needed on that front. In fact, the Virginian Pilot is up for sale and is not expected to get any bidders who are interested in this fish wrap as a business proposition. The likely buyer will be a wealthy individual with the means to support a mouthpiece fast approaching bankruptcy but who will want the power to smear his opponents with impunity.

But back to the “perfidious” Pentagon. Do you know what they did? Quoting a critic of the war – Retired General Zinni – the Pentagon created "cheerleaders for the Pentagon" in their roles as analysts on television news programs. In other words, the Pentagon decided it needed a counterbalance to the defeatism of the MSM. Imagine that! The Horror!

To get serious for a moment, the war we are in is a multi-phase war with involves perceptions and loyalties as much – or more – than bullets and bombs. The MSM has declared for the enemy or, at best, a disinterested neutral. For the Pentagon to allow the global perceptions of the war to be decided by the creepy denizens of the editorial offices of the Virginian Pilot or the NY Times would have been criminal misconduct.

Wonder how this dimwit reportette feels about the MSM being cheerleaders for either Obarama or Hitlery? I am sure that no journalist integrity is lost.

‘staggering breach of public trust’

What would the MSM do without hyperbole? The daily exaggerations are tedious. The constant drumbeat tearing down anything linked to conservatives is wearing thin. I left the Left for good when I read in the LA Times (a decade ago) that the Starr lawyers were using ‘desperate tactics’ during Whitewater while the Clinton lawyers were credited with ‘sophisticated manoeuvrings’. That bias was so blatant that I could no longer ignore the doublespeak in favor of the Dems.

“staggering breach of public trust by Pentagon leaders,” designed to “sabotage traditional journalism.”

I can't imagine why the Pentagon would want to bypass traditional journalism in order to tell its story to the American people. Traditional journalists have shown time and time again that they are lazy, ignorant, and biased. They harbor an irrational hatred of the military that borders on delusional paranoia. They are unapologetic champions of the far left dogma that wishes the destruction of the American way of life. They are insanely jealous of American soldiers who are everything that they are not: men and women of honor, courage, and integrity.

No, I can't imagine why the Pentagon would wish to undermine traditional journalists.

Lazy, ignorant, biased, and COWARDS.

So many of the MSM foreign correspondents (so called reporters) tell their crap from within the confines of the “Green Zone,” protected by the very persons whom they regularly denigrate.

Oh puleeeez! We’re not children who are going to be “tainted” if someone has an ideology to present as fact or analysis. Is some news reader going to protect us from the Pentagon by their clear-eyed and objective journalism?
The best protection available is the remote control.

I was going to suggest you add: "The Environmental Movement", but I guess they are imbedded in the three entities you mention.

TIME “reporter” Tim McGuirk, who “broke” the “Haditha Massacre” story (which is now known to have been a hoax perpetrated by insurgent propagandists) was offered an opportunity to go to Haditha to gather facts for a follow-up story but was too scared to go because the place was “hot” with insurgent activity.

"You can't blame them for being supportive of the troops," Zinni told me in an interview, "but they crossed the line when they began supporting the policy."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The overriding issue the Pentagon should assess is the degree to which dressing up propaganda as journalism undermines democracy. How can voters make intelligent choices in the face of such deception?
The Pentagon is merely attempting to counter-balance the slick propaganda coming out relentlessly from the America-hating socialist “mainstream” newsrooms. I can’t blame the Pentagon for tilting in the opposite direction in order to try to achieve that balance. Let’s face it - - the socialist “mainstream” newsrooms ARE our chief domestic enemy.
What do you suppose would have happened to Zinni had he made THAT statement while active?
I ab so lute ly couldn’t get over the hypocrisy of that last editorial statement.
Democrat columnists like Joyce Hoffman want to hear ONLY from assclowns like Zinni and Gen. Barry McCaffrey, both of whom she (and every other scumbag in the Democrat news media) regularly seek out for quotes. So naturally, when other viewpoints are heard (thereby “sabotaging traditional journalism”, LMAO!) America-hating rats like Hoffman get their panties in a wad.
Apparently, Hoffman never got the memo that she and her socialist “mainstream” newsroom ilk are a fast-dying breed. Good riddance to bad garbage, I always say....
imho, the environmental movement is an international one and long a haven for socialist revolutionaries.
(they will have the air nice and clean for the cadres in the re-education camps.)
Just like the MSM to believe in its inalienable right to criticize, condemn, and complain - without having to answer a rebuttal.
Zinni apposed the war from day one, full understanding all the crap the Iraqi government had pulled off for many years and it’s designs to take over the ME. The guy is a jerk.
