A 23-year-old Bloomington, Illinois, hotel employee accused of letting a number of people stay in rooms without paying has told police she let them stay only because some of them were homeless.
Jeannie Roberts was charged yesterday with theft of labor, services or property.
The general manager of the Clarion Hotel called police after discovering that five rooms were being used even though they were not checked out.
Some of the unpaid guests were found in a hot tub, and police said the five rooms had been occupied by about 20 people.
Police said the unpaid guests may have damaged four closet doors, three microwaves and a mini refrigerator. They reportedly also drank three bottles of liquor.
A Dem delegate in the making.
Did they get their complementary breakfast?
No, no, no.
They were simply undocumented guests.
No crime there. - And the hotel had best take them back in as long as they want to stay, and pay for their medical expenses as well as sending their illiterate children to school.
I tell you one thing, free breakfast in this country doesn’t come any where close to the free breakfast I can get from a hotel in Taiwan.
What a surprise - the unpaid guests caused damage.
These are not the same people who trashed free rooms on a cruise ship after Katrina, are they?
A look at our future!
She’s a young woman whose heart is in the right place, she just needs to develop a little more assertiveness and be able to say no. Or keep a list of shelters she can refer people to. She hasn’t yet learned that not everyone is appreciative of assistance.
Private school!!! LOL!
She hasn’t learned yet that you shouldn’t offer OTHER PEOPLES belongings.
Maybe her heart is in the right place with respect to other people's money. But she should learn to spend her own money to help people. The rooms were not hers to give away.
she just needs to develop a little more assertiveness and be able to say no.
she just needs to develop a little more brainpower and understand that giving away things that she does not own is theft.
If you had a maid service in your home, I bet you would not want her giving away your possessions. I understand what you are getting at, but this was wrong. She needs to keep a list of resources to give when someone asks for help.

When I lived in Portland’s Western Prom area we occaisonally on terrible weather nights would have some poor soul of a street person half frozen knock on our door. We gave the two that did it gloves and hats and drove them to the nearest transiant hotel after picking up a takeout meal at McD’s We would put them up for the night.
Not the government...us. It made sense.
That was the give away for me...
I disagree. She is a looter. She is only generous with someone else's money. She epitomizes the evils of liberalism.
the Fox webpage title says ‘Hobos in Hot tub’ lol

Puppy MacMuffin?
I stayed in one hotel in Louisiana where they just threw a box of hostess doughnuts on a table and called it breakfast.
You get a breakfast buffet in almost every hotel in Taipei.
Louisiana? Those weren't donuts... they were baguettes. ;~))
As far as 'free breakfast' my experience is that you get what you pay for.
Personally, I look for the local coffee shop where I can sit down and be waited on rather than mill around the feeding trough with a bunch of people who are compelled to eat every thing in sight just because it's 'free'. No thanks.
I needed a smile today... :-)
I used to answer a crisis hotline and got a call from a UT coed who had been bamboozled by a street bum and his girlfriend. She was looking for a place for them to stay. I told her about the Salvation Army, but they didn't want to stay there because the Salvation Army gave them dormitories segregated by sex, as opposed to letting them stay as "man and wife."
I told her the other reason they didn't want to stay at the Salvation Army is because the Army won't let you in drunk and won't let you in with drugs or alcohol in your possession. She kept telling me about how sad it was that they were sleeping under a bridge, and I told her that was their choice. There was a place they could stay with a warm bed and meals, but they had to follow the rules. She thought I was cruel.
