THE US military is drawing up plans for a "surgical strike" against an insurgent training camp inside Iran if Republican Guards continue with attempts to destabilise Iraq, Western intelligence sources said last week.
One source said the Americans were growing increasingly angry at the involvement of the guards special operations Quds force inside Iraq, training Shia militias and smuggling weapons into the country.
Despite a belligerent stance by US Vice-President Dick Cheney, the administration has put plans for an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities on the backburner since Robert Gates replaced Donald Rumsfeld as Defence Secretary in 2006, the sources said.
However, US commanders are increasingly concerned by Iranian interference in Iraq and are determined that recent successes by joint Iraqi and US forces in the southern port city of Basra should not be reversed by the Quds force.
"If the situation in Basra goes back to what it was like before, America is likely to blame Iran and carry out a surgical strike on a militant training camp across the border in Khuzestan," said the source, referring to a frontier province...

Shhh! It’s a secret!
lol. I love articles about these secret plans!!
Yawn this again.
Republican Guards?
If they can’t even get the name right, why should any of the rest be believable...
Many people in the military have been wanting to hit one of these camps to send a message for a long time.
They ARE killing our troops. They should pay a heavy price for that.
I hate incrementalist military action. If we’re gonna open up on Iran, we may as well REALLY open up on them and turn Natanz into glowing rubble.
No doubt just another "contingency plan" added to the hundreds referring to Iran.
Preparedness IS protection.
You know this has to be a scam. Unfortunately we’d never have the guts do do something which would so upset the NY Times.
Iran supports disarming of militias in Iraq-report
*******************EXCERPT************************
The delegation from Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's ruling United Iraqi Alliance (UIA) travelled to Iran after fresh U.S. accusations that Iranian-made weapons were found in Iraq.
Iran confirmed discussions took place with the visiting Iraqi delegation to help end fighting in its neighbour. Tehran has in the past denied supporting militias loyal to anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
"We support the Iraqi government's efforts to disarm militiamen but we also advise (it) to avoid confronting people," ISNA news agency quoted an unnamed official as saying.
The official said Tehran would continue to support the Iraqi government and "make its utmost efforts to establish security in Iraq".

It’s amazing how the MSM is acting so concerned with US activities since all they’ve reported before is that we’re so “stretched thin” that we couldn’t strike if we had to. We have the resources by many means but it will take someone who’s finally had enough and will take action.
