More Oklahomans Getting Concealed Carry Permits

More and more Oklahomans are carrying concealed weapons these days.

In fact, there are so many new requests the state Bureau of Investigation can barely keep up. Last year, there was a 45-percent increase in new licenses -- the largest jump since the concealed carry law went into effect.

It is legal in the State of Oklahoma to carry a handgun in your purse on your belt if you have a license. It's been that way for more than a decade. Some laws have made it easier.

The governor signed legislation expanding gun rights in 2006. Some of the fees and age requirements have also made it easier for more people to get concealed licenses.

But, in talking to instructors and those who carry, those really aren't the reasons driving people to the shooting range.

Reverend Steve Whitaker has carried a gun more than a decade. He runs a mission for the homeless, sometimes late at night. It is one reason he is a preacher packing heat.

"I know that it surprises people," he says. "I have people ask me all the time."

I’m getting a new Glock 40 with my “GOV Rebate”. Is there any reason to go with anything else?

Now THAT'S the Obambi-definition of a Clinger.

On a plus note, the more citizens that are armed, the less likely that a President Cackle or President Ears will be able to turn our country over to Iran (which they WILL do, if it benefits them financially).

I just bought a glock 30, its an awesome gun but a little bulky, I can’t wait to see how it works out concealed with the new holster I bought.

Good for you! The coder that sits across from me doesn’t get a rebate, he’s rich. (He’s the one that will show me where to get the best deal though)

My definition of surreal....to see that clip on TV about Boston. That would be a dream and a half.

Great story thanks for posting.

Ever try the Glock 32C?

.357 SIG cartridge, and it feels like you are shooting a 9mm.

The secret is the ventilated barrel that allows gas to escape through the compensated "roof."

Give one a try sometime.

Warning: You might need surgery to remove the grin from your face.

I have a 27 which is great for carrying.

I picked up a federal agent job and now have to carry my service weapon off-duty. It is a mid-sized HK and is a pain to conceal. I definitely have to dress around it, especially when travelling on an airplane.

I have a model 22. If I were you I would go with the model 27 if you plan on carrying.

I like ‘em a bit myself. They are darn near indestructible, and reliable as all hell....

I just wish they fit my hand better. Oh well....
