Sen. Barack Obama won the endorsement of the Teamsters earlier this year after privately telling the union he supported ending the strict federal oversight imposed to root out corruption, according to officials from the union and the Obama campaign.
It's an unusual stance for a presidential candidate. Policy makers have largely treated monitoring of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters as a legal matter left to the Justice Department since an independent review board was set up in 1992 to eliminate mob influence in the union.

Big deal. The oversight committe is probably just as corrupt as the TEAMSTERS. Why can’t the FBI do this? I’m for dismantling any gov “oversight” committee. They waste my money.

The Justice Dept is the oversight of the Teamsters. Not the FBI, but Justice. Obama wants to get rir of that. This guy throws his grandma under the bus, runs over Rev Wright with a Mack Truck, and now sells out to orgainized crime. Been a good couple weeks for the Messiah.
If Obama does win the election, the Teamsters could be pretty useful dealing with demonstrators, as they have been in the past beating up anti-Clinton demonstrators in Philadelphia.
The Teamsters Union was being monitored by the govt long before 1992, maybe under a different agency? I know, because I was a member who was fighting for Ron Carey and Teamsters for a Democratic Union.
He didn't have a clue.

It’s worse than you think. The Democratic Party, representing Teamsters Unions, are planning to re regulate the transportation industry. The fees (spelled t-a-x) will put many small trucking companies, not unionized, out of business.
