NBC's "Today" show invited on "Newsweek International" editor Fareed Zakaria to promote his book "The Post-American World," on Monday's show and during his segment the author depicted the United States as a nation in decline as he declared the "era" of "'American exceptionalism' is over."
As examples of America's declining standing in the world the "Newsweek" editor cited such facts as China now having the "Largest ferris wheel in the world," Minneapolis' "Mall of America" no longer being the largest in the world and Macau having surpassed Las Vegas in the size of their casinos.

The era of Newsweek is over.
They have contributed and are elated.
Hey, Fareed, were bigger where it counts!
I must’ve missed where Newsweek admitted that American Exceptionalism ever existed.
H
Casinos and ferris wheels.
These are the true barometers of social, cultural, and economic success, aren’t they?
Newsweek NEVER believed in such a thing to start with.
Newsweek (and their two-bit hacks) wouldn’t know what exceptionalism is.
If in fact he’s right and we are a nation in decline, it’s because so many leftists have been deliberately trying to engineer that decline for decades now.
'Newsleak' Editor Winner of the George Soros Leftist Award.

We should all hang our heads in shame that America is no longer home to the World’s Largest Ferris Wheel. Pack it up folks, the party is over...
Kick out the Dhimmocrats and the muslims and exceptionalism will return.
I thought the same thing. What a ridiculous metric
Do we still have the world’s largest ball of twine?
If not, I’ll know we’ve jumped the shark and make arrangements to move to the Central African Republic, where they are REALLY leapfrogging our technologies.
Yep, mission accomplished according to Zareed and Newsweak.
It’s all based on who has the biggest ferris wheel. I think everyone knows that. We lost. Our wheel is too small, and our time in the sun is now over.
Just like a Newsweak editor to think that American “exceptionalism” is based upon having the largest ferris wheel or the largest mall..... people like Zakaria do not even begin to grasp what is special and, yes, still “exceptional” about America. Hint..... China’s 1.3 billion people and their depraved commie-fascist one-party rule has not even begun to grasp how far they have to go in all that really counts, no matter how many $10 fans they churn out for WalMart.
we still have shaq
I trust that Fareed has renounced his U.S. citizenship?
We still have the tallest steel roller coaster - So there Newsweek!
“The basis most commonly cited for American exceptionalism is the idea that the United States and its people hold a special place in the world, by offering opportunity and hope for humanity, derived from a unique balance of public and private interests governed by constitutional ideals that are focused on personal and economic freedom”
Fareed mistakes malls and ferris wheels for what makes us special in the world. Newsweek..pfft
Nonsense.
In truth, Newsweek is a pipsqueak in the news world....and it's because of "editors" like this quack.
Utter nonsense.
Yeah, you might as well curl up with a copy of PARADE to get your international affairs data.
Only with regard to news magazines.
And we don’t use excess apostrophes!
I am going to say it as forthrightly as I can. In this the US is right and the rest of the World is wrong. The Metric system is just downright stupid for 95% of human activity. For the remaining 5%, the specialty trades can and will use metric measurements, even in the US.
If you let people decide what to use, they will use the US measurements for everyday use. The only way Metric can gain prominence is to be imposed from above.

On television, Zakaria hosted the weekly Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zakaria news show for PBS. From 2002 until 2007, he was a regular member of the roundtable of ABC News's This Week with George Stephanopoulos and an analyst for ABC News.
I’m not sure that’s fair to PARADE.
My M-I-L INSISTS that the “journalists” at Newsweek are completely objective and therefore a completely reliable source of information.
I couldn’t continue the conversation because I was laughing too hard.
When asked if this means the United Sates can now stop funding the United Nations and third world despots, Fareed started stuttering.
Indeed, an employee of the dinosaur media is promoing a book commenting on the lack of American exceptionalism. Somebody needs to buy the guy a clue. However, the book does speak volumes concerning the reduced capacities among the Newsweek hangers-on.

Yeah, people keep saying it...and we keep proving them wrong.
Now, with the current crop of lameass choices for President we might take a DIP--but eventually we'll pull ourselves out. Another great leader will come to the fore...but Hitlery, Hussein and McLame aren't going to fill the bill.
Because he can’t live in all of those places.
So what that one country has a bigger ferris wheel or that another bigger casinos and another has a bigger mall...we have ALL of those.
Seriously, Fareed Zakaria is a d*%chebag.
Has America lost a step? Without a doubt, and much of that decline can be directly attributed to leftist policies. Having said that, Newsweak, along with leftists simply cannot grasp that this great experiment called the United States is foremost about liberty and freedom. The United States is truly “the shining city on the hill”.
Leftists and their allies around the globe do indeed hate us, but we are the first ones they call in their time of need. As Ann Coulter has said, “The natural state of the world is Darfur. The freakish aberration is America...”
Looks like a DINOSAUR to me.
I’m sure it’s a generation thing for her—probaly has been reading it since its inception, along with newspapers.
Let’s take up a collection to keep Newsweek alive...
IF and IF that is true we have the lefties and spineless “conservatives” to thank for it.
You are right, plus the Metric system just sounds lame. I mean watching football and hearing “it's 3rd down and 3 meters to go” or “hey kids it's just 6 more kilometers to Grandma's house” or “Hell man I shot that dear from 75 meters away” would make me want to pull a yuppie from a Volvo and punch them...
No telling how I would feel if someone asked me to pick up a “liter” of Jack Daniels on the way over to a party, that's just not right...
That's good!
What about the largest frying pan???? “Michael.” :)
When I was in graduate school in 1980, the rage was “the zero-sum society” a concept championed by Lester Thurow. His thesis was that America’s decline wa inevtable as the rest of the underdeveloped world improved, as there were only so many esources to go around. It may have seemed that way when Jimmy Carter was president, LoL.
