It’s time we issued a Big Bird hunting license. I’d even go hunting with Dick Cheney for that foul creature.
CTW took in $53 million of its 2007 $130 million dollar operating revenues from the sale of licensed products. PBS boasts that they have no advertisments. Sesame Street IS the advertisment.
make ted turner pay for PBS
Sorry folks, Big Bird is a close personal friend of mine.
But it’s nice to know everyone is focused on the big picture.
daveyB. Now that is funny.. just make sure he is walking in front.
The question is “Should tax dollars support PBS?”, so “No” is the conservative vote.
Don't worry we let you eat the drumstick!
Given the leftward lurch of the party, 100% might not do any good.
I love some of PBS, but then there is the liberal agenda and extreme environmentalism it promotes through news shows such as Democracy Now and Jim Lehr. If it would back off the liberal news and just show children’s shows and Masterpiece Theater, I would even contribute to it.
You accept government dollars you accept government oversite. I personally don’t think we need an offical government channel.
If PBS is so great, as the defenders of PBS like to claim, then it should have no problem surviving in the free market.
I'll give them the same consideration.
OK - give the UN a big bird!
In the next few months, Congress will decide whether to continue supporting Big Birdor give him the ax. Public broadcasting gets around $400 million annually from the U.S. government, which covers about 15% of local station budgets. (Most shows are funded primarily by producers, viewer donations, private foundations and corporations.) Now the Bush Administration has proposed cutting funding by half.Naturally, the article starts with a lie. Ending the PBS subsidy would no more give Big Bird the ax, than ending farm subsidies would make Rosie O'Donut skinny.
