Al Gore: 'Assault on Reason' Endangers Democracy
NPR ^ | May 6, 2008 | Terry Gross

Posted on 05/06/2008 10:25:19 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Al Gore, who galvanized public opinion with his advocacy on global warming, sees danger in another poisoned environment, this one metaphorical: In his book The Assault on Reason, just published in paperback, he argues that what used to be called civil discourse is threatened by a combination of public apathy and political cynicism.

In our infotainment-mad culture, Gore writes, the public attention span is short, the media are easily distracted, and a politics driven by fear and uninterested in facts has undermined the essential functions of democracy.

"When evidence that any reasonable person can see and understand is completely ignored in favor of ideology and power politics, then the country suffers," Gore told NPR last year.

But he doesn't lay the blame entirely on Washington.

"I'm not pointing a finger at Bush and Cheney," Gore said when the book was published. "I am pointing to the cracks in the foundation of American democracy."

What's he complaining about -- these are the very things which have made his global warming scam possible!

“Al Gore: ‘Assault on Reason’ Endangers Democracy”

Gore’s right, and he’s leading the charge.

Does the Gore clown realize what he has just said? This is rich. Let me know as soon as Gore can prove that he could pass a high school science course.

He's not complaining. He's just burning the bridges that aided him on his quest so no one else can follow.

Which is why we need to dump democracy and put ourselves under the complete control of those wiser than ourselves.

That’s worked out so well in the past whenever it’s been tried.

Hilarious! This, from the same sick, lying scumbag who continues to this day to perpetrate the "global warming" hoax?
That's some gall right there.

“In my own experience, I have learned that visual images—pictures, graphs, cartoons, and computer models— communicate information about the climate crisis at a level deeper than words alone could convey. Similarly, the horrifying pictures that came back to us from both Vietnam and the Iraq war helped facilitate shifts in public sentiment against failing wars that needed to end.”

At least he admits it.

It's called 'mass market' and a vast segment of publishing today is done that way.

This guy is a piece of work isn’t he? What about the threats to civil discourse caused by hype about a subject such as global warming? The supporters of Al Gore alternately try to scare us to death about the subject, and also, try to shut down debate. They say that the subject is settled, that’s there’s no serious scientific debate about the facts, etc. And sometimes Al says that this is a “moral” issue, as if that settles it somehow.

So Al knows what he’s talking about. He knows all about shutting down debate, marginalizing and attacking opponents, and trying to scare people to death if you don’t accept what he’s saying.

Who’s the ghostwriter? Al oGre isn’t smart enough to string that many sentences together.

oGre:

1. a monster in fairy tales and popular legend, usually represented as a hideous giant who feeds on human flesh.
2. a monstrously ugly, cruel, or barbarous person.

"When evidence that any reasonable person can see and understand is completely ignored in favor of ideology and power politics, then the country suffers,"

Does anyone see the irony when you juxtapose the above quote with the Al Gore quote posted below?

"Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous (global warming) is"

This quote occurred during an interview by David Roberts. Here is the interview question and the complete response in its entirety.

Question: There's a lot of debate right now over the best way to communicate about global warming and get people motivated. Do you scare people or give them hope? What's the right mix?

Response: I think the answer to that depends on where your audience's head is. In the United States of America, unfortunately we still live in a bubble of unreality. And the Category 5 denial is an enormous obstacle to any discussion of solutions. Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis. Over time that mix will change. As the country comes to more accept the reality of the crisis, there's going to be much more receptivity to a full-blown discussion of the solutions.

Algore flew down to Chile with a HUGE CORK for that nasty old CO2 spewing volcano (his jet leaving its customary massive carbon footprint)

He was last seen atop the cork passing through 100,000 feet and climbing.

If the rest of us get lucky, he’ll go into orbit — around Mars.

The scientific method allows for freedom of inquiry, raising questions, having real debates. Given that Al Gore wants to silence anyone critical of his Global Warming Gospel, it is he that is assaulting reason big time.

Al Gore is absolutely right but for precisely the wrong reasons. He sees himself as the victim of a spanish inquisition like atmosphere, when it's been him and his eco-stormtroopers in education and the media, who have been the perpetrators of silencing dissent through intimidation.

He can’t pass a high school science course. But he did learn from the masters of diversion and bluster: Janet Reno, James Carville, HRC, and the Jedi Master with an accredited degree in Public B.S., William Jefferson Clinton himself.

It's amazing to me that AlGore can preach on and on and on, like a minister giving a sermon, about how shameful it is to engage in the politics of fear and crisis mongering and he doesn't have the slightest clue about how much of a hypocrite that makes him.

In Algorespeak and Liberalspeak generally “reason” is a synonym for “emotion” and is antithetical to rational argument.

Al Gore will go down as the dumbest politician of our day. He’s invested so much in this and made such outrageous statements (e.g., today’s latest), he’ll be deemed a fool in hindsight.

Al should know the "attack on reason" quite well.

Of course, I'm cynically skeptical of a lifelong politician who can't even recognize busts of the founding fathers at a historic monument.

Just saying...
