Following are excerpts from an interview with Hamas MP Salem Salamah, which aired on Al-Aqsa TV on April 23, 2008.
Salem Salamah: There are companies established by the colonialists and occupiers - large companies with branches all over the world, like Pepsi, Pepsi Cola. This is a well-known company. Pepsi is an acronym. P-E-P-S-I - Pay Every Pence to Save Israel. Pay every pence - pence is one hundredth of a dollar – to save Israel. Pay every pence to save Israel. Shouldn't the Muslims have a fund, a company, or a large project to save the Al-Aqsa Mosque?

These people are so deluded that facts dont count any more. Why would a product born in the Carolina’s in 1898 use an acronym which alludes to a foreign currency and refer to saving a country which would not exist for another 40+ years?

You already do. In fact, it's called the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. And it's not merely for "saving" the al-Aqsa mosque, it's for wiping Israel off the planet via terrorism! Same for many other Pali and Islamic terrorists groups. How more animalistic and dumb can these Palis be?
This clown sounds almost as savvy as that other fountain of secret wisdom and knowledge, Rev. Jeremiah Wrong.
For the record, pence is the plural of penny, not a singular to be used with “each” or “every.” Not that that would stop the conspiracy theorists from shoehorning that into their imaginary acronym, but it does demonstrate the elementary school-level of their thinking.
That’s why we once spoke of a tuppence, and a ha’penny. One is plural, the other singular.
Giving the dingbat his due, he isn’t a native English speaker, pence/penny/pennies confusion is typical. It seems his English is British-flavored (or flavoured !) besides.
The whole business is pretty typical of the Arab paranoid style. Facts don’t come into it, rhetorically, partly because it is mainly just rhetorical.
There is an odd disconnect between alleged conviction and action that gives the game away - most of them deep down know they are probably full of it, but are too insecure to admit it. And the knowledge that they are wrong keeps them from acting on these fantasies - well, most of them; its interesting how few Palestinians actually step up to fight. That feeling of futility just makes them angrier and fuels more fantasies.

This is a common sentiment all over the Arab world, not just among Palestinians. I usually hear “Pay every penny, save Israel” though, not pence. I’ve also heard that Coca Cola means “No to Makkah, yes to Israel”, but this one is not as common & most Arabs prefer to drink Coke.
The bias against drinking Pepsi was so high, that Pepsi had to pay Haifa Wehbe (famous Lebanese performer) millions to pose for Pepsi billboards in order to improve their brand name. Ironically, I believe that Pepsi was one of those who supported the boycott against Israel. They get what they deserve.

The only two discussed within the current PepsiCo website are the following:
Caleb Bradham bought the name "Pep Kola" from a local competitor and changed it to Pepsi-Cola. "Pepsi-Cola" is an anagram for "Episcopal" - a large church across the street from Bradham's drugstore. There is a plaque at the site of the original drugstore documenting this, though PepsiCo has denied this theory. The word Pepsi comes from the Greek word "pepsi" ,which is a medical term, describing the food dissolving process within one's stomach. It is also a medical term, that describes a problem with one's stomach to dissolve foods properly.
Another theory is that Caleb Bradham and his customers simply thought the name sounded good or the fact that the drink had some kind of "pep" in it because it was a carbonated drink, they gave it the name "Pepsi".
