BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese citizens must register their identities when they buy potentially deadly knives, Xinhua quoted the Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday as saying.
The new regulations come as China steps up security ahead of the Beijing Olympics.
The targeted daggers include those with blood grooves, lock-knives, and knives with blades measuring over 22 centimeters, the ministry said in a circular posted on its website, www.mps.gov.cn.
Police departments at all levels should check knife manufacturers for illegal production of deadly weapons, it said.
Regulations concerning knife tools used by China's ethnic groups are to be set by local autonomous governments, the report said.
All parcels addressed to Olympic athletes, dormitories and sporting venues will be subject to X-ray checks, media reported on Tuesday.
China, whose Communist rulers value stability above all else, has come down hard on anyone they fear could upset the Games, from people protesting against the demolition of their houses for venues to the country's sometimes restless ethnic minorities.
Coming to an Obama platform near you.
What about butcher knives? There are going to be a lot of mad Chinese chefs in Beijing. I think the PC crowd in Britain tried this with an attempt to ban pointed knives.
Obamao, he makes Mad John look acceptable by way of comparison...
China is catching up to the UK!
They should invent some kind of fighting system that does not need weapons . Just an idea .
Then he will have the ATFE register all the old leaf springs in junkyards to assure there are no knives made in violation of his laws!
Obama certainly believes in the right to possess knives, BUT subject merely to “common sense knife regulations,” such as the banning of [all] sharpened edges and bladed tools. Citizens must be protected from gangbangers, chefs, and whittlers.
Umm...aren’t ALL knives potentially “dangerous”?
How about ALL rocks?
Hands? Feet?
How about thoughts?
They better not forget to confiscate the toy knives too.
As long as they are registered no problems. (I guess all knives have a serial number on them?).

...Dojos are (almost) everywhere.
So if a shank has a serial number, it’s OK?
I think that has already been addressed by most communist regimes.
As long as it is registered. ;-)
If you get Sportsman’s Guide, Cheaper Than Dirt, or similar catalogues, you will see that some US states have similar restrictions on knife shipments into those states.
The Change is already here, will it spread?
Can anyone say...Climate Change?
Next it will be forks and spoons.
When Knives are banned, only outlaws will have knives
Good point.
Good point. <--------<<< ;-)
Ha. My buddies wife is an ER nurse. She said one time they got a mexican in with a sharpened spoon stuck in his chest. I’m not kidding.
Hope they don’t forget about box cutters......
Maybe they can learn some Filipino Kali and then the Chi-coms will have to ban sticks.
“Then he will have the ATFE register all the old leaf springs in junkyards to assure there are no knives made in violation of his laws!”
I used to walk along the railroad tracks and pick up the coil springs that had fallen off the cars. Made a bunch of tools and knives with them. A little coal, a bunch of whacking with a hammer and shazaam, you’ve got a knife.
I am not sure but I think you have violated the Patriot Act by describing how to make weapons which can be used to overthrow the governemnt. Is this thread legal to have on the FR forum?
They’ll never take me alive!
and any drawings of knives should result in expulsion, if not jail time for the offender.

Over 22 centimeters? That's a fair size blade.
(1 cm = .3937in x 22 = 8.66")
In any case, besides blade length it looks like every knife I own would be 'outlawed' due to the other criteria.
friggen commies
Most of my folding knives are lock-knives as the others are hazardous, and while none have 8” blades, they are all made in China.
Yep, a few years back I bought a bunch of 'cheap' lock blade knives from Bud-K -- all made in China. And the folding Boot Knives have Blood Grooves. And though 'cheap' in price the quality wasn't all that bad. They aren't Buck, Case or Gerber quality but sure worth the money for 'average' use.
And a while back my SIL got me a 'Rambo style' survival knife, also made in China. Now that is a good knife and is 'HUGH'. Think he paid $20.00 for it at a flea market.
