The Left is Wrong
Town Hall ^ | May 7, 2008 | John Stossel

She was once the darling of conservatives like Newt Gingrich, but now you can't watch a television news-talk program without seeing her calling for more government and showing scorn for those who want less.

She's Arianna Huffington, website impresario and author of "Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution and Made Us All Less Safe".

I interviewed her for "20/20" last week because I was impressed by the success of the website she created. In just three years she made the Huffington Post a hot liberal opinion site.

What happened to Huffington's beliefs? In 1994, she worked to promote the Gingrich Revolution. She appeared at political events with Bob Dole.

"I definitely called myself a conservative," she told me. "I actually believed that the private sector would be able to address a lot of the issues that I believed were very important, like taking care of those in need. And then I saw firsthand how difficult it was. ... One of the problems with the Right is that they don't believe in facts, and they don't believe in evidence. And I was willing to change my mind, confronted with new evidence. And we would all be better off if we were willing to look at new evidence."

So she turned to big government.

"What we need is serious government policies to address poverty."

But they don't work, I said.

She went nuts right after she gave her husband “The Gay”.

‘nuff said.

Evidently, you’re an idiot....

Yep, all the great examples of Communism working. Cuba, Venezuela, USSR, Vietnam, China, Zimbabwe etc. Such a joy to visit those countries to find out all the facts just how well big government works to help the poor. Communism helps the poor so much, everyone becomes poor.

Oh - heaven forbid something be difficult to do.

Let's declare our independence from Great Britain. -- but - but it'll be soooo difficult.

Let's free all the slaves. - We can't do that it'll be too hard.

Let's take on the Germans and the Japanese. -- Ohh too-too hard.

Let's go to the moon. -- Are you kidding? Now that is waaaay too hard.

If gay marriage was legal in America, her husband could have married a real man, instead of having to resort to marrying a woman who merely resembles one.

I occasionally travel on private planes

Went confronted with this by Hannity several years ago and it being a big contradiction with the "green" nonsense she was pushing her reply way "those planes were going there anyway."

“That honesty is a relief. If only she and others would own up to the other contradictions in the Left’s call for endlessly intrusive government.”
John, that is not honesty, that is is self justification.

After watching the video of the interview, she comes out more as a friend of Big and the Powerful - little people, they’re forgettable. Rush Limbaugh and Ann Couldter and Bill O’Rielly? “We’ll deal with them ...”

you’re an idiot if you think OSHA has done any good....Lawsuits are the prime reason companies have safer work places.....it makes economic sense to have a safe work environment.

Her total lack of interest in Stossel's points about the failure of the programs she promotes proves she could care less about the poor or the environment. She's not even curious, or even willing to address his points substantively.

However, she deeply cares about her self-image as a compassionate warrior, regardless of how badly she must hurt the poor and the environment to keep up that image.

Forgive me for not being impressed.

I remember she and Al Franken reporting from either the Dem or Repubs convention in the 90s...for some reason they were wearing nightwear and were reporting from a bed.

Arianna Huffington is a useful idiot. She may have a charming accent and a bank account full of divorce settlement, but she won’t acknowledge that her ideas are excreble. She’s a Jane Fonda wannabee socialist.

Her website is one of the most scurrilous on the net. Compared to it, dailyKos is a center of sobriety and high intellectual content.

Since when is a government program working a requirement for a liberal?

But the Census Bureau says the percentage of families living below the poverty line fell from 11 percent in 1996 to 9.8 percent in 2006. The percentage of single mothers below the poverty line fell from 32.6 percent in 1996 to 28.3 in 2006. That looks like progress to me.
But Huffington had this retort: "The fact that we used to live in caves is not a justification for the state of affairs right now."

Sounds like it's ARIANNA, not Conservatives, who isn't willing to accept the EVIDENCE, and change her mind.

Charlie Rose interviewed Arianna on his show this week or maybe last.
She came off as a ditz who was only topically aware of the
issues she was talking about. Charlie Rose held her hand during the interview (gave her an easy ride) and threw several
ambigous statements towards her pointing out her lack of intellectual heft on those things her book is about. Of course, his veiled barbs went over her head. He looked a bit
bemused over her lack of deep understanding over the issues.
A must see!

I dont know much about Charlie Rose, but he is a smart cookie and appears to be a liberal middle of the roader
and smart.

Bingo! This woman is the textbook definition of what it means to be a liberal hypocrite. She admits that she rides around in private jets, and lives in a huge home, but tells the rest of us that we should cut back, downsize etc. And when confronted with empirical evidence that welfare reform helped, rather than hurt, the poor, she refuses to accept it. What an absolute hypocrite!
