McDonald's to give away free chicken sandwiches
Associated Press ^ | May 6, 2008

OAK BROOK, Ill. - Fast food chain McDonald's Inc. says it's giving out millions of free samples of its two new chicken menu items.

On May 15th, the Oak Brook-based restaurant chain will give customers samples of its "Southern style" chicken biscuits and sandwiches.

Customers can get the free lunch and breakfast items when they buy any medium or large drink at the company's 14,000 U.S. restaurants.

The promotion's part of McDonald's efforts to convince customers to try their expanded chicken menu.

McDonald's says it expects to give away 8 million breakfast and lunch sandwiches during the daylong event.

Shouldn’t ‘chicken’ be in quotes?

Dunkin Donuts is giving away iced coffee that day too. Should be a cheap day.

Chick-fil-A is the boss and will not be dethroned.

They opened a Chick-fil-a here about 6 months ago. I was given a free meal from there, so I tried it out. Iwasn't impressed with the food, and the prices were significantly higher than most other fast food restaurants. I'll stick with KFC for my chicken, I guess.

Unless they come from a chicken like animal then they are the real deal, they are whole pieces not parts clumped together with egg(like the mcnugget).

Yep, sure is. I’m more of a bacon egg and cheese biscuit guy, myself. Or Hardee’s Ultimate Omelet biscuit, that’s another good one.

I see Mickey D’s even stole the “two crucial pickles” from Chick-Fil-A’s original chicken sandwich. (I always get my Chick-Fil-A with no pickles.) But they can’t copy the excellent waffle fries!

I tried the "Southern Style" chicken sandwich... It was breaded chicken with two pickles on a bun. Now the breading was good. But where the heck was the gravy, and what the heck were the pickles doing there?

I'm not up on all Southern dishes, but how is this "Southern Style"?

Me too! Nothing beats a Chick-fil-A sandwich. Best chicken I've ever had away from my mother's table. I've had a McDonald's Chicken biscuit...it was ok, most of boneless breast but I had to wait 10 minutes for it.

Started in Atlanta and moved west and a little north. Basically southern for now.

Another good regional is Whataburger here in Texas. Best chain hamburgers you can buy.

God, I love Whataburger.

Do they still say “We don't start without you”?

I miss them. I think the closest one to me is down on the Virginia coast somewhere.
