We live on a corner lot in Anderson Twp. Ohio. Five years ago we bought this house, built in 1953, which had been vacant for around 10 years. We divided our time and money between fixing up the outside and fixing up the inside. When we purchased the house we intended to put up a 6 ft cedar privacy fence in the back yard and herein begins our tale.

that is funny
I missed the part where it said Allen and Robin weren't allowed to vote.
It’s easy to change the ‘face’ of a township board. Run yourself damnit!
Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that not allowing someone to vote would be the only tyranny possible.
Or are you saying that voting for some other petty bureaucrat would result in some other result?
All the articles and links seem rather dated, is there a current status (like 2007 or 2008) on this whole situation?
"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats."
This is the perfect response to unreasonable zoning restrictions or unreasonable zoning administrators.
I looked for that. Apparently they’ve given up changing anything through ridicule and making them a laughingstock.
I just thought it deserved a little publicity.
LOL! Well at least they approached the problem with humor. I wonder if the Township will relent and let them build their fence.
What a tagline that would make!
An excellent suggestion.
This is too funny, I hope members of the board feel like crap !!!!!!
I was gonna, but it's a touch too long.
With a little editing...
Oh this is good. Thank you for posting.
That works!
On [that] world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people.
Odd, said Arthur, I thought you said it was a democracy?
I did, said Ford, It is.
So, said Arthur, hoping he wasnt sounding ridiculously obtuse, why dont the people get rid of the lizards?
It honestly doesnt occur to them, said Ford. Theyve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government theyve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.
You mean they actually vote for the lizards?
Oh yes, said Ford with a shrug, of course.
But, said Arthur, going for the big one again, why?
Because if they didnt vote for a lizard, said Ford, the wrong lizard might get in.
“Run yourself damnit!”
On target, sir.
It’s one of my pet peeves against conservatives and small government types - they never show up at local government meetings. At some meetings I’m the only conservative in attendance, in a room filled with 5 to 10 left wing moonbats. Then these clowns on the village council believe the citizens want radical left wing policies.
Little wonder we’re losing our country.
The formula to take back our country is not complex - the head (central government) cannot operate without the body (local government).
If the zoning ordinances are indeed repugnant to the majority of the community, then the majority can make its voice heard at the polls.
Tyranny, by definition, is absolute rule with no legal means of opposition.
Also, I notice that at no point was the question of easements raised, nor were the terms of their deed described - those are usually crucial in any discussion of this nature.
Or are you saying that voting for some other petty bureaucrat would result in some other result?
At the township level, most "petty bureaucrats" are actually local homeowners and businesspeople - not lifelong professional functionaries with no stake in the local community.
Anderson Twp has a reported population of less than 45,000.
This is not like fighting city hall in Cincinnati.
