Jordanian authorities have banned all events marking the "Nakba," or Catastrophe, as Arabs refer to the creation of Israel 60 years ago.
Several pro-Palestinian groups and Jordanian opposition parties has been planning to hold a rally in Amman on Friday.
But the authorities informed the organizers of the decision to ban the event, as well as other "illegal public gatherings."
The Islamic Labor Front, which was planning a major rally in the capital, condemned the ban as unconstitutional.
The party expressed outrage over the decision, noting that the Jordanian government had allowed the Israeli Embassy in Amman to celebrate Israeli Independence Day.
Earlier this year, Jordan banned relatives of Ala Abu Dhaim, the Palestinian who killed eight students and wounded eight at Jerusalem's Mercaz Harav Yeshiva on March 6, from mourning him in public.
The relatives were warned against receiving mourners in a public place or erecting a monument to commemorate the gunman, who was killed in the attack.
The family expressed outrage at the decision, pointing out that Israel had allowed their relatives in Jerusalem's Jebl Mukaber neighborhood to hoist Hizbullah and Hamas flags and to identify publicly with the gunman.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
Go Jordan, the land where the queens are as beautiful as their husbands are wise.
Yeah, Jordan is the one Muslim nation in the middle East whose rulers really deserve to be called moderate. Admittedly, King Hussein occassionally did and said some things that were not moderate, however, it looks like that was more a matter of trying to stay alive than based on any personal hatred. I know he occassionally worked behind the scenes with Isreal and I think he genuinly desired to just have peace.
We’re in agreement there. I thought quite a bit of the elder King Hussein. He was a good leader of his people too.
I don’t remember if it was a Harley or what, but he had a motorcycle he liked to tool around on once in a while.
Well, except for that death penalty thing for selling property to Jews.
Check this out: He and Queen Nor made quite a couple.

Aloutette, if that is true, I don’t necessarily fault the king for that policy. By Western standards it is completely barbaric, but by the standards of the region, it’s sort of a fate acompli.
You can’t do everything you would like, just because you’re a king. Both Saudi Arabia and Jordan leadership do things to placate their populace.
How many Jordanians have been put to death for selling land to Jews? I’ll bet it’s near, if not dead zero.
Whops, it was Noor.
Yeah, he was quite a character. I read an autobiography that he wrote of himself and he sounded quite western. I mean he obviously took an Arab approach to the state of Isreal which I didn’t agree with but all in all he came off as a pretty reasonable guy. I wish I could remember the name of the book because it was a fascinating read. He told about the many brushes with assassination and such that he had had. His grandfather was assassinated right in front of him when he was a kid and he was only saved because the bullet which was intended for him had bounced off one of his medals.
He also talked in his book about how he loved to race fast cars and to fly planes. Including a story that he told of flying his plane back to Jordan and getting ambushed by a Syrian Fighter aircraft. Apperantly, he was able to survive by flying very low and evading.
He also appeared to have been a very personaly brave leader. There was one coup attempt that he stopped by personally going to the scene of an attempted military coup and using his personal charisma to get the Soldiers back on his side. Ironically, he let the guy who organized the coup go into exile rather than having him killed in any brutal manner.
How many Jews have bought land in Jordan? I’ll bet it’s near, if not dead zero.
BTW, the Jordanian law is applied by Fatah and Hamas in the West Bank, so the number put to death for selling to Jews is significantly higher.
That sounds interesting. Thanks for the comments.

It sounds like the King of Jordan cares for his people. I am begining to like the guy even.
the Nakaba is a study is a study in islamic stupidity. It is a Pali self pity party who’s sole purpose is to whip up the sheeple into a killing rage.
The Muslims did not loose Palestine, they gained both Jordan and Syria from Palestine. In reality, they won an outstanding victory, where the minority gained the majority of the land, ten to one.
The Nakaba is to whine over the one, instead of celebrate the ten.
Jordan has more sense than our Israeli leftists.
