IN November, I was found guilty of "racial harassment" for reading a public-li brary book on a university campus.
The book was Todd Tucker's "Notre Dame vs. the Klan: How the Fighting Irish Defeated the Ku Klux Klan I was reading it on break from my campus job as a janitor. The same book is in the university library.
Tucker recounts events of 1924, when the loathsome Klan was a dominant force in Indiana - until it went to South Bend to taunt the Irish Catholic students at the University of Notre Dame.
When the KKK tried to rally, the students confronted them. They stole Klan robes and destroyed their crosses, driving the KKK out of town in a downpour.
I read the historic encounter and imagined myself with these brave Irish Catholics, as they street-fought the Klan. (I'm part-Irish, and was raised Catholic.)
But that didn't stop the Affirmative Action Office of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis from branding me as a detestable Klansman.
They didn't want to hear the truth. The office ruled that my "repeatedly reading the book . . . constitutes racial harassment in that you demonstrated disdain and insensitivity to your co-workers."
A friend reacted to the finding with, "That's impossible!" He's right. You can't commit racial harassment by reading an anti-Klan history.

The book sounds like a good one, and is available on Amazon
Ugh. Whadda world...
Weren’t Klansmen Democrats???
I hear there’s a hospital in Chicago that’s got an Affirmative-Action officer they pay in excess of $300,000 per year.
This is a great book, and it made me even prouder that my son is a student at Notre Dame.
You would think that the administration of an institution of “higher learning” would be somewhat more intelligent thatn demonstrated.
I’m sure every liberal library has many truly racist tomes for every palate. This was just stupid but it does illustrate the intolerance and the mindset in these institutions. It doesn’t matter if the charges are credible it is the seriousness of the charge that matters to them and the feelings of those involved. I’m glad this worked out well for the guy. Just thinking about it raises my blood pressure.
I’ve read this book, I’m Irish Catholic subway alumni from southern Indiana. It is anti Klan history. Tells the story of their huckster grand dragon in Indiana. It was overwhelming a money making dues scam for him.
I remember my grandfather telling me ofthe Klan in Daviess County Indiana burning crosses & parading through Montgomery Indiana. He called the marchers out by name. He could tell who they were by the shoes they wore.
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
H. L. Mencken
Otherwise known as "job security" by the $106,000/yr affirmative-action officer.
Actually, he was the diversity guy for Washington, D.C...and, IIRC, he qualified as "diverse" because he was gay but not diverse enough after using the term "niggardly."
PC INTREP - or should it be IGNORAMOUS INTREP?

His judgement from the lawsuit and the proceeds from his book should make him rich
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.
H. L. Mencken
“I was found guilty of “racial harassment”
Guilty in a real court or a trumped up college court. I’d sue their Irish arses off. Calling the ACLU!!!
Just a small preview of coming attractions in a Barry Hussein administration. Everything the left finds offensive will become a hate crime. This will, of course, include all of the facts which leftists consider dangerous to their agenda. Get ready to toss the 1st and 2nd ammendments.
I've been collecting black flags for some time now.
The book was about Notre Dame; the idiotic college is IUPUI. You'll find the diversity push at Notre Dame, too, but they aren't this stupid. :)
“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
I would dispute an assertion that the left and PC forces are imaginary.
I apologize if I didn't make myself clear.
The left and PC forces are the poison, their endless series of hobgoblins are the delivery system.
In no sense could these quacks at ND consider themselves liberal, liberals having degenerated into cult minders. Put the two accusers up on a dais to explain their world view would be akin to putting a crazy street preacher up there, same difference.
Oooooh......”charges” eh? Come an arrest me then @sshole!
Yeah...
What was her name, again?
You can if you're white.
Niggardly is a Norwegian word. So is ombudsman but it is being changed to ombuds-person so as not to offend all Americans except for those of Norwegian descent. Who should “my peoples” complain to now to make this grave injustice right? I’ve written a song about this and the words we can’t say anymore. I really let it out about all sorts of stuff, like being warned by an NPR host I was listening to last week that the word fag was coming up. It was ok for the homosexual author to use it in his essay, he told us, but we should be warned because we may not want out kids think it was ok. Just before that the host called himself a âgrown ass manâ Now kids all over America are talking about what they want to be when they become “grown ass” woman and men too.
I really express myself, tell it like it is in my song, it’s a sort of auditory memorial to the first ammendment. It’s an instrumental piece. I say all the words in the privacy, freedom and safety of my head as I play it on the baritone sax. Does anybody know if NPR accepts those kinds of contributions for their show “This American Life”?
George Orwell was a prophet.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
My kid has a similar lack of representation from the Teamsters, I filed a complaint with the NRLB in his name, I wasted 16 years as a Union Activist in a Large Electrical Union and an Assistant Business Agent before I got disgusted and jumped into management. The kid won.
I recall reading that the KKK was created by the Democratic Party in the 19th century to use intimidation tactics to keep black voters away from the polls; at the time, support for the Republicans among black voters was close to 100%.
So we aren't only banned from saying words which some ignoramaus might misunderstand, we are also responsible for how we make them feeeeeeeeeel.
I thought “niggardly” was Dutch and “ombudsman” was Danish- if I were a Dutchman or a Dane your claim would seriously offend me ;-)
Klan power in the South didn’t wane until Blacks became a consistent Democrat Party vote in the late ‘60’s. If blacks start voting over 30% black again, look for a Klan resurgence.
It was DC city govt. and the guy resigned quickly because there was such a firestorm from ignorant morons who don’t know that the word “niggardly” has absolutely no etymological connection with that “other” word .....
“I used the word ‘niggardly’ in reference to my administration of a fund,” Howard said in a written statement yesterday. “Although the word, which is defined as miserly, does not have any racial connotations, I realize that staff members present were offended by the word.
“I immediately apologized,” Howard said. “ . . . I would never think of making a racist remark. I regret that the word I did use offended anyone.”
When Howard, who is white, noticed the reaction to his use of the word, he apologized to his three-member staff, which is made up of two blacks and another white. It is unclear which two employees he was addressing when he used the word.

I need to find that history somewhere.....I think it is SO powerful....and unknown.
OK, you will- IIRC Old Icelandic was a dialect of Norwegian.
Typical liberal jumping to conclusions and then being too stupid and arrogant to retract when they err.
Political Correctness is destroying us. It might just get us the most leftist, incompetent, anti-American president in our history.
Thwe underlined is a surprise. Probably like the broken clock that is right once in a while.
BUMP!
re: political correctness
When PC-insanity gets to the point where everyone is afraid to say anything, the racist racialist left has us all exactly where they want us — THEY get to be the arbiters of everyone’s speech and thought. Many/most campuses are already this way, almost completely. No one wants to cross the PC-fanatics because it’s just too much grief.
I’m surprised the PC-police have not managed to ban many “great works” of literature, philosophy, etc. because there are often more than a few “incorrect” thoughts found almost anywhere. They do go after Mark Twain now and then, even though he was quite a progressive thinker in the context of his era, because his use of language and dialect can certainly disturb people now. Joseph Conrad also comes under quite a bit of attack.
Some years back Jesse Jackson led some hordes at Stanford U. chanting “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Western culture’s got to go!” If it doesn’t meet the demands of charlatans like Jesse then it must not be taught or even discussed.
Another example: in some ways the uber-liberal philosopher of the past 200+ years is Immanuel Kant (although he doesn’t fit easily into contemporary liberal/conservative definitions). He has a famous sentence that would get these PC nuts into a lather, if they had ever actually read it (Kant manages to offend both the ‘niggardly’ objectors and also stepmothers!!):
“Even if, by a special disfavor of fortune or by the niggardly provision of a stepmotherly nature, this will should wholly lack the capacity to carry out is purpose.....”

Of course, Kant wrote in German (I don’t know what word is being translated by the word ‘niggardly’) but that word ‘niggardly’ appears in various English translations of Kant. Maybe it’s just the translators and commentators who have to be banned.
Just goes to prove that "Affirmative-Action" is really just a giant shake down racket. As in "Start shoveling the money or I'll start screaming discrimination!"
Until people start standing up to these "victims" and their "feeelllings", it will get continually worse.
In the early 70's this junk was just getting a good start. Teaching 8th graders in middle school in TX, I called some boys down in the back of the room for being noisy(English class). They grumbled that I could not call them boys--it was insulting. I said it might be insulting to their fathers if I said "Hey you there, boy"..but it could not be insulting to them because they were boys, unless they were girls. I told them they would not correct my language and dictate what words would be correct for me to use. People need to do more of standing up against this mess of PC sewage flowing thru the ed. system.
vaudine
It slips my mind right now, but there’s rumors about that she got the job because she’s married to a two-bit Chicago politician/rabble-rouser.
I think it is time for the mockingbird to avenge Huck Finn.
Was it Scout in "To Kill A Mockingbird" that did that?
