"People have just one set of clothes; some are even wearing jute bags. There is not enough drinking water. There are no sanitation facilities whatsoever. Many people have wounds that are not being attended. The estimated number of people in these 26 camps is 100,000."

Sheri Villarosa, the senior US diplomat in Burma, said she feared the death toll could reach 100,000.

But despite the obvious suffering, massive devastation and pressing need for urgent action, the Burmese authorities were continuing to insist yesterday that everything was under control. On the front page of the New Light of Myanmar – a state-run government publication – was a picture of the Prime Minister, Thein Sein, handing over 20 television sets and 10 DVD players as part of the "relief" operation. This, in a region where there has been no electricity since the 130mph storm struck.

Thein Sein is only campaigning to become the mayor of LA. Leave him alone.

Some NOLA Katrina “victims” got their TVs and DVD players the old fashioned way: They looted them!

A freeper had a good idea: drop aid packages, with rice, salt, medicine, and whiskey that’s been spiked with a slow-killer poison.

The junta drinks and croaks. Then we can get more aid planes in.

This Thein Sein is way off base, toasters and hairdryers are the answer.

Like a true Junta member...they went over to the warehouse that they keep “favors” in...and pulled out some items for public perception. Before the storm...this would have been good press...now....the guy looks like an idiot. This reminds one of southern politicians in the 1960s who would hand out grants to various communities as “pay-back” for voting for them.

" ok...im at a loss here TV's and DVD players dont aid hunger/dehydration....... "

But if they put in the Planet Earth DVD, at least they can salivate to all the unspoiled water available. Oh wait...there is no unspoiled water according to the environ-whackos.

The junta obviously doesnt care about its people at all. But dont worry - the Moonbats will still find some way to blame the current administration. Just you wait.

They are letting a C-30 land in Burma now, and hoping this is the start of the relief effort. I hope Bush had the guts to tell them what our military could do if they block the aid.
This is the type of government that we should not tolerate on our planet. They are extreme and violent and very poorly armed. At least when the UN controls a country they steal without killing many people.

There should be no doubt whatsoever that the Junta in Myanmar needs to be taken out by force at this time.

This is the perfect time ,as they are off balance and the people would rise up to support a surgical strike.

How much more does the world need to see about this animals?
They are worse than Saddam Hussein . Take them out with extreme prejudice .

Perhaps Muang Thai has the balls to even get in their and help us . It would do wonders for their national psyche which has still never recovered from the depredations of the evil Burmese kings of long ago upon the Siamese kingdoms

If you’ve been searching the news updates, the magnitude of indifference on the part of the dicatorship is astonishing. Tons and tons of aid just off shore, US carriers, medicines, other countries (except the Arabs, of course, save for Dubai & Kuwait), and the military is drinking tea, playing cards and watching while folks cast ‘yes’ votes (only). One story spoke of aid trucks being driven just out of sight and abandonned. Another story spoke of 7 aid workers being allowed in. Big whoop.

Another story speaks of an entire generation of childrem being lost. Bodies being washed out to sea, only to be washed back in on the waves....drinking fetid water...and eating rotting rice and bananas.

Even China is doing almost nothing to sway this band of merry makers, the junta....what, to kill off the Burmese so the Chinese can move in and run the natural gas business and rice exports?

Gives you pause, thinking that while we sleep, all those people are losing hope, getting dysentary, dengue fever or malaria. Pretty soon, even experienced aid workers will not be able to help nearly as much as they might have, even in the country whose health care system is second to last, with Sierra Leone being in last place.

The whole story has really hit me. People wanting to help, waiting on the tarmack, and the government wants to hold an election—while 100s of thousands are dying or dead, many still lying in the open in sweltering, tropical areas that are difficult to reach.

We should give them 24 hours to submit to international will
on this matter ,and thereafter tell them we will totally level their new captiol if they do not respond . If they do not respond , flatten the capitol . It’s time to take these guys out.

BUFF’s would have to transit via Utapao and the Thais would never allow that .
But I agree that it is time to slam those MF’s up against the wall and tell them how it's going to be....
