Jenna Bush picks 'You Are So Beautiful' for dance with Dad

By JOE EDWARDS, Associated Press Writer 38 minutes ago

Jenna Bush picked "You Are So Beautiful," the ballad made famous by Joe Cocker, for the father-daughter dance with President Bush at her wedding reception Saturday night in Texas, the band leader said.

Tyrone Smith of Nashville and his 10-piece party band, The Tyrone Smith Revue, were hired to play at the reception in Crawford.

The band was asked to do "Lovin' in My Baby's Eyes" by Taj Mahal for the newlyweds' first dance. Smith spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday about the music plans, on the condition that the reporter honor a request by the Bush family not to release the information before the wedding.

Smith, who also played at one of the 2005 Bush inaugural balls at the Washington Convention Center, normally coaxes his audience members onstage to dance. He planned to make the president a target Saturday night.

"If he's around and the party's going, I'll get him up," Smith said. "I can't imagine him ducking out."

Smith planned to play "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang as the newlyweds arrived at the reception about 7 p.m. CDT in a tent on the 1,600-acre family ranch in Crawford. He said the band would play briefly, then break while the attendees have dinner, then resume and play until around 1 a.m.

"It'll be a 'get down' party," Smith promised.

Amen. So great that she had her wedding her way.

Sorry to politicize the thread, BUT ... is there irony in Jenna Bush marrying at the family ranch in TX on the same day Hillary’s hopes of a WH wedding seem to be crushed forever as the superdelegate lead turns to BHO?

Daddy's heart swells with pride tonight. Next stop: First grandchild!! What a great family....one you can really look up to as a stunning example of grace and goodness and perseverence. Good Hearts. Good people. I feel honored to have them in our White House.

God gave us a gift...History will recognize it in time.

I agree. Once the facts are examined - after the Democrats and media have chosen someone new to scream at - I think Bush will begin to be seen as having done an extraordinary job in extremely difficult times.

I think the modesty and lack of pretension of this event, when it could have very easily been otherwise, is quite admirable.

What crummy music taste.

Boring 70’s and 80’s music

Classy music is needed at weddings.

Showtunes, crooner music, light classical

You’d almost think they thought this was some sort of sacred ceremony instead of a political moment, huh?

I’m proud of the Bush family and for Jenna and her new mister. I sort of feel like we earned a White House wedding, but she needs her wedding day needs to be hers and not ours.

I was very impressed that Jenna chose a relatively simple wedding at her parents home as opposed to a media laden la-tee-dah wedding in Washington.

She showed integrity, imo. Most young brides would crave the attention of a “White House” wedding and all that goes with it. I can't help but believe that reflects her upbringing.

I don't agree with all of President Bush's views. But I, for one, will miss him.

I’d pick seventies and eighties music like Joe Cocker over Broadway showtunes for any wedding—and I actually like showtunes! Did you have in mind something like Andrew Lloyd Webber? Rodgers and Hammerstein? Kurt Weill? Stephen Sondheim?

I'm happy for the Bush family. They will remember this night forever.

ABC radio news ran a story of Republicans who traveled to Crawford just to be in town for the event. That seems kooky.

Really?

Oh, yes.

Sinatra, The Way You Look Tonight was the song we first danced to at our wedding reception. What could possibly be better?

With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.

Lovely ... Never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.
