Report: Admiral's affair included sex at White House
cnn ^ | May 9, 2008 | not specified

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Navy admiral engaged in sexual relations in the White House in 1990 with a federal employee whom he falsely told he was a widower, according to a report released Friday by the Defense Department.

In March, when the report was submitted to Pentagon officials, Rear Adm. John Stufflebeem was demoted and fired from his post as director of the Navy staff.

Stufflebeem told investigators he couldn't remember the name of the woman he had an affair with. He also lied when he told investigators he did not engage in sexual relations with the woman, identified as "Jane Doe," the Defense Department's inspector general's report said.

Jane Doe, who was then unmarried and working for a federal agency, told the investigators the allegations were true, the report said. Her supervisor and Stufflebeem's superiors supported her testimony.

Stufflebeem was convicted April 18 of making false official statements to investigators. After the hearing, called an admiral's mast, he requested retirement.

Jane Doe told investigators that she and Stufflebeem began their affair on an overseas trip in 1989, that the married admiral told her he was a widower who was raising his children as a single parent and that they had sexual relations several times, including once in a White House room reserved for "military aides with overnight duties."

Without “Jane Doe’s” mug, we can’t say whether the admiral should walk the plank or not.

I know of a Brigadier General who is up for a big promotion, but the guy is way deep into Internet porn.

I haven’t a clue as to how to turn him in so he doesn't get that promo.

He was a Line Admiral (I think # 18 in the pecking order)- then reverted to Rear - then assigned some staff job. Talk about throwing a career down the drain for something that happened 18 years ago...

“I haven’t a clue as to how to turn him in so he doesn’t get that promo. “

IG may work, other BG’s that are up for that star are another option. Your Congressmen or someone on the appropriate committee may be a good option too.

Better be right too.

Stufflebeem was convicted April 18 of making false official statements to investigators.

Yeah, the Founders were real big on cracking down on "false official statements to investigators", weren't they?

Seems like our officially elected and appointed thugs have been using the "lying to officials" crap more and more over the last few years - well, unless you happen to be the Democrat president or her husband...

If you read the article - it sounds like he has already been demoted.

He HAD a 3 star rank - Vice Admiral.

The article, in many places, calls him Rear Admiral. A 1 star admiral is a Rear Admiral, Lower Half (please ...no bad jokes!!), while a 2 star admiral is a Rear Admiral, Upper Half.

Flag rank doesn’t have the same retirement guarantees, and mid-deeds can cause loss of rank. Admiral Kimmel was blamed for the loss of so many ships at Pearl Harbor (7Dec41) and was retired with loss of 1 star.

Mike

The "code" I was referring to - was the "Honor Code", under which EVERY Midshipman swears:

"A Midshipman does not lie, cheat, steal, or engage in any activity which would compromise the integrity and security of his or her conscience, the well-being of the unit, or the values of the United States Navy and Marine Corps."

This is NOT "martial law" -- it is simply a CODE OF CONDUCT , I believe we should ALL be held to...

The fact that too many folks find this Code of Conduct "sheer nonsense" goes a long way toward explaining the degradation of modern society...

We've become a thug culture - following the "code" of a lower form of animal than honorable human beings...

"Why didn’t the guy just say that he cannot recall that far back?"

I don't know, but I have to admit I believe him when he says he can't remember her name. The affair apparently began in '89 overseas and ended in '90. That's pushing 20 yrs. ago. I hope nobody is digging through my previous life to nail me for something I did that long ago because I probably couldn't remember enough from that far back to defend myself.

The weird part of this thing was I recognized his name from someplace, the face looked familiar, and finally at the very end of the article it says where I would have seen him on the tube.
