Westboro Baptist Cult May Protest Jenna Bush's Wedding?
Right Wing News ^ | May 10, 2008

Posted on 05/10/2008 9:14:46 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Even Cindy Sheehan concedes this would be too tacky...but the Westboro Cult has never let something small like tact get in the way. I'm not sure how these attention whores twist a heterosexual marriage into an appropriate place to protest homosexuality, but then I don't see how they twist any of the funerals they protest at as appropriate settings either. Anything that will make a headline, I guess.

The crowd from the Crawford Texas Peace House may be sitting this one out, but the sanctity of President Bush’s daughter’s wedding Saturday won’t necessarily stop anti-homosexual protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church from trying to crash the blessed event. Shirley Phelps Roper, daughter of the leader of the Topeka, Kan., church whose members picket at locations where they believe homosexuality is being encouraged, said eight church members will picket near Jenna Bush’s wedding Saturday night.

The protesters will set up at Prairie Chapel Road and Farm-to-Market Road 185 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Roper said.

Meanwhile, peace activist Kay Lucas, caretaker of the Crawford Texas Peace House, says the organization plans no protests of its own Saturday but will staff its headquarters at 9142 Fifth St. in Crawford, several miles east of the president’s 1,600-acre ranch.

“We just felt that she (Jenna) doesn’t have anything to do with her father and his policies,” Lucas said. “And this is a woman’s one-time dream of a wedding day. Protesting would just be tacky.”

It’s a rare concession by the peace activists, who have mounted local protests of President Bush’s war policies since 2003.

They were pivotally involved in Cindy Sheehan’s massive anti-war protest near the president’s ranch in August 2005.

Roper’s group, however, trailed the president last week as he toured tornado-ravaged areas of Kansas, she said.

< sanctimonious mode> Any attack on the Reverend Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church is an attack on the White Church. < / sanctimonious mode>

What????

I'm just following Reverend Jeremiah Wright's lead. Obama had no problem with it for 20 years.

I really think that this group is a cover organization for liberals. It’s my belief that they are attempting to discredit anyone who opposes homosexuality by being so outrageous and over the top that they draw national attention.

Nope, this is a cult...just by another flavor.

The interesting thing is that they really don’t gain any strength within this church. And all of these field trips? They all cost money which ought to be our focus on the group...where is the money coming from?

Fred Phelps constant ranting, about gays, is a case of “Me thinks he doth protest too much!”, to quote Shakespeare. One might come to the conclusion that Fred Phelps is in deep denial about his own sexuality. In other words, Phelps is constantly throwing tirades, to purge himself of his own homosexual urges.

Freud made much the same observation about people with an obsession, like that of Fred Phelps. Whatever they are ranting about, is what they really want to do.

There are people who do far worse than westboro. I think what they do is done out of fear, confusion, stupidity and ignorance. Maybe a bit of wanting attention. Who knows.

Maybe God pities them and wishes they would open their hearts.

I know I feel sorry for their restricted little lives. In the same way I feel sorry for obama’s preacher and his heart filled with confused hate.

They make their money through lawsuits; just about every member of the Phelps family is a lawyer. They know that their protests are extremely inflammatory, so they wait for someone to get angry and turn violent. Then they sue the assailant, the county, city, police, and whoever else they can find for violating their First Amendment right to peaceful protest.

This article briefly mentions how they received over $200,000 in the mid-nineties from Kansas and the city of Topeka. It's a total racket.

I doubt that George W Bush, the daddy will allow this on his private property and the Secret Service will consider it a security risk and the county sheriff will handle the traffic problems and that deputy who is also getting married that day might not be able to get the day off.

Test your theory.

Email them some innocuous question, perhaps about their plans to protest China in China.

The response you are likely to get from Rev. Phelp’s daughter will convince you they actually believe this crap.

You would be wrong. I've been watching this group for some time and they've been on their anti-homosexual jihad for decades and their hate is very real. It wasn't until they started picketing soldier's funerals that people really took notice. If they hadn't started doing that but had merely stuck to picketing homosexual funerals I doubt a lot of people around here would have a problem with them.

Possibly what you say is true and I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt.

On the few occasions I’ve seen Shirley Phelps Roper interviewed I’ve gotten the impression she is a very hateful person, especially to the interviewer who questions their motives.

Here’s EVERYDAY at the Phelps House:

KIDS: “What’s up today, DAD?”

DAD: “We’re all going to go hang out with a large crowd of faggots”

KIDS: “Not the cemetary again. How long do we have to stay?”

DAD: “All day, if needed. Now, hurry up and get dressed.”

So, why are they Baptists?

Why aren’t they Protestants?

Have they picketed Hillary?

They picketed her during the 1992 campaign when she was speaking at University of Kansas complaining that Bill Clinton refused to condemn homosexuals. The picketed the Clinton inagural ball in 1997 as well.

Phelps support for Gore goes back to 1984 when Gore was running for re-election to the Senate and he refused to endorse a homosexual bill of rights. The pictures of Phelps Junior and Gore date from Gore's 1988 run for the Democratic nomination for president, when Phelps was a Gore delegate. They have never and will never support the Clinton's because the Clinton's have never spoken out against homosexuality. And I doubt that Phred and his crew want anything to do with either Clinton or Obama this year for the same reason.

Who was the head of the Swift Boat operation in Houston, John McNeil? The Kerry supporters protested his daughters wedding. I know because I told one of them face to face that she should be ashamed of herself. They positioned themselves all around the girls home on her wedding day in outlandish costumes. They were probably at the church too. I remember one woman was wearing a hamburger costume, I couldn't figure that out unless it was left over from an old PETA protest. Talk about looking like a fool.

Them, no. They proved what they were by protesting at funerals. They showed no respect for God, Family, or Religion.

I would support an individual’s right to protest gay politicians at political events.
