A Red Cross boat delivering supplies to help 1,000 victims of last weekend's cyclone sank Sunday when it hit debris in the Irrawaddy Delta region, as the U.S. prepared to deliver relief supplies to Myanmar.

"The crew managed to get to the safety of an island, along with four Red Cross staff who were on the boat," Red Cross official Joe Lowry said. "But we've lost most of the cargo."

Yes very sad. These poor people. As I understand they were already living in extreme poverty and under a brutal communist regime, then the cyclone, then their government’s refusal to allow aid in and I saw just yesterday that heavy rain is predicted to move in the region over the next couple of days.

I wonder if the Thai government is concerned about a refuge crisis?

Are we sure Thailand didn’t sink it?

The sadder part is that it was one of only a few boats being allowed to reach shore.

From the description of the cargo I’d say it was a pretty small boat.

I know.

The Red Cross boat sank from hitting submerged debris from the storm.

It was supposed to be a little humor, but people may not read it that way.

The truth is that they absolutely did not sink that boat.

“I wonder if the Thai government is concerned about a refuge crisis?”

There is already another thread dealing with exactly that issue, refugees.

The Thai Government has sent in the most aid of anyone yet, and the King has sent in some of his own aid packages, also one of the Princesses sent in a planeload through her Foundation, we are talking several C 130loads here.

as far as a refugee crisis, Thailand would rather help to take care of them in Burma rather than Thailand
