Ron Paul's forces quietly plot GOP convention revolt against McCain
Los Angeles Times ^ | May 12, 2008 | Andrew Malcolm

Posted on 05/12/2008 6:45:32 AM PDT by tlb

quietly, largely under the radar of most people, the forces of Rep. Ron Paul have been organizing across the country to stage an embarrassing public revolt against Sen. John McCain when Republicans gather for their national convention in St. Paul at the beginning of September.

Paul's presidential candidacy has been correctly dismissed all along in terms of winning the nomination. He was even excluded as irrelevant by Fox News from a nationally-televised GOP debate in New Hampshire.

But what's been largely overlooked is Paul's candidacy as a reflection of a powerful lingering dissatisfaction with the Arizona senator among the party's most conservative conservatives. As anticipated a month ago in The Ticket, that situation could be exacerbated by today's expected announcement from former Republican Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia for the Libertarian Party's presidential nod, a slot held by Paul in 1988.

I wish Hunter would stage a revolt at the convention, we need to get the Rino McCain out of there, but of course that won’t happen, more’s the pity.

The writer is not giving McCain enough credit, even moderate Republicans aren’t enthusiastic about McCain. The more he opens his mouth, the more reason the GOP has to replace him.

It would be an interesting contrast. White hoods in the audience, and La Raza flags on the podium.

Since Paul's supporters in the aggregate are a coalition of anti-war activists (Cindy Sheehan contingent), potheads (libertarian contingent), Klansmen (Don Black contingent) and Truthers (Alex Jones contingent) I don't see how Paul's maneuvering reflects dissatisfied conservatives.

It's the lunatic fringe against the Rockefeller Republican legacy.

Conservatives are completely sidelined in this.

Yawn. Oh, wow, umm, I'm sure that the major media will make much out of it, but actual impact on the convention will be virtually none. And if there was an actual ‘revolt’ it wouldn't be talked about this far before the convention. Simply more wishful thinking by the pimple parade.

As for revolts by conservatives - well, we reelected W didn't we? Makes me think that we'll sheep through this as well. I highly disagree with a good number of John McCain's positions, however, I disagree with pretty much every position by Obama, so John's going to end up being my man.

But if John pulls Mr. I Love Mandates as his VP, don't care anymore. I'll write in someone, as it won't matter who wins. Either way, it'll be Nancy Pelosi who'll rule the nation.

Paul is the Klan's candidate for President.

He has never rejected Grand Wizard Don Black's endorsement or returned Grand Wizard Don Black's contributions.

He has even met with and been photographed gladhanding with the Grand Wizard during this campaign.

Now is the time for Conservatives to organize and fight the highjacking of the Republican Party by the MSM and Liberals. Our country, our freedom, our future depends on it. Our enemies are waiting, watching, and salivating over this obvious self-destruction. Any of these three candidates will be welcomed and celebrated by our enemies. IMO, Osama Hussein Obama and his vile Socialist wife are anti-America, anti-military, anti-freedom.

LA Times. Toilet paper and bird cage liner until they support sabotaging the GOP convention, then FReepers take them as the paper of record.

It really amazes me that so many FReeeprs are willing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this year just because their 5%er didn’t get them nom.

“Oh, boo-hoo, my uber-conservative cult of personality didn’t get the nomination! Now I won’t be able to bestow upon him the powers of a dictator so he can drop the conservative hammer on the other 90% of the population.”

Nothing pisses me off more than fringers who think they have absolute moral athority and should trump the vast majority.

I don’t much like McCain, but I do not trust Ron Paul to defend this nation. His time to be president was 1808. Thinking that we could withdraw from out interests around the world and the Islamofascists would then just leave us alone makes me view him as dangerously naive and somewhat insane.

Actually, by Ron Paul's stated principles, President Thomas Jefferson had already grievously overstepped his constitutional authority.

Ron Paul would have been a fringe candidate even in 1808.

McCain is in there because someone wanted him there. He was down and out but someone brought him back and nobody knows how or why it was done. I find it amazing how we can have two socialists on the Democratic side and a puppet on the Republican side running for President and our people don’t see it.

Perhaps Conservatives aren’t willing to roll over and play dead at the expense of our country. What Obama wants doesn’t matter. In my opinion, the Obamas have more dirt to be exposed than in any election in the history of this nation. Their obvious Socialist background and corruption hasn’t begun to be exposed to the American public. I doubt that Americans are ready to give up their freedom and their children and grandchildren’s futures. Osama Hussein Obama is the favored candidate of terrorists everywhere. This is going to be the nastiest election in history with the stakes higher than ever.

And Obama is yours, so what?

I understand that, in lieu of the ability to make coherent arguments, you have fallen back on a strategy of accusing everyone who is not a supporter of the Klan candidate of being a supporter of the nation of Islam candidate.

You apparently do not realize that there are a large number of Americans who recognize both the Klan and the Nation Of Islam as being equally contemptible organizations.

The fact remains that Paul is the Klan's candidate as well as yours, and that by supporting Paul you are throwing in your lot with the Klan.

I continue in my belief that you have chosen unwisely and would be better suited by supporting a conservative, instead of a non-conservative like Ron Paul.

Bottom line. I would rather have shrimp than Amnesty.

The Base will rally more against a Dem Rat President than support a McCain President.

Especially when he is gonna push for amnesty, more global warming funding, more AIDS for Africa etc..Bush III. Great.

This election should be about the Senate and Congress. The fact that thats not being pushed is crazy. They are the firebreak and this point.
