Texas will immunize FLDS children
The Salt Lake Tribune ^ | 09 May 2008 | Brooke Adams

Posted on 05/12/2008 6:59:24 AM PDT by BGHater

Texas authorities have asked foster care providers to immunize every FLDS child - despite some parents' concerns about possible negative effects.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services sent letters to 16 group homes and shelters this week asking them to line up shots for the children.

"It appears to be a totally unimmunized population," said Patrick Crimmins, department spokesman. "We're the legal parents of the children and we would like for them to be immunized."

Crimmins said the state requires all children in custody to be immunized for their "health and safety." He said no one would be forced to get inoculations; older children specifically would have the opportunity to decline the shots.

A Dallas attorney called the demand "outrageous."

"The truth is [FLDS parents] don't kow what to do," said Polly R. O'Toole, who represents one child. "They would prefer to make that decision. But they are afraid to exercise any options out of fear they will be perceived as uncooperative by CPS."

Rod Parker, a Salt Lake City attorney who has acted as a spokesman for the FLDS, said some children have been immunized but their health records are in Utah.

Willie Jessop, an FLDS member and spokesman, said some parents have immunized their children and some have not. "It's an individual decision," he said. But the parents "oppose forced mandates of things happening to their children they don't even know don't even know about."

I don’t think the older kids are going to catch autism at this point but they could catch one of the diseases, especially in Texas

How do they really know who has been immunized when they don't even know who their children are.

Wow. Now this is a hearty stew. Parental rights, children’s rights, the authority of the state, the authority and responsibility of the temporary guardians not to mention a little health and welfare of children thrown into the soup for flavoirng. Should be interesting.

No, you've them in your care and custody, you are not the legal parents of these children. But like most things in this case, laws do not apply, as it's for the children... I do not agree with the beliefs, nor the accused actions of the FLDS group, but nothing frightens me more than government agencies who have no care for constitutional guarantees.

The children are pretty well isolated so I don’t see the urgency of this. While many things are/may be wrong with this whole cult situation, if I were to write a book about the state taking “right now”, I’d probably call it “Stolen Children”.

they are no longer isolated.

They are in one of the wost situations, foster care.

(though vaccines no longer use mercury in their mix)

Perhaps they should just hold off til the DNA comes back then they would know WHICH parents to ask.

Is the CPS rushing to jackboot the issue?

This is not a crisis issue at this point and will hold for a few weeks.

I completely agree with you! Truly frightening that this “agent of the state” sees himself/state agency as the “legal parents” of these children. I haven’t seen any court orders terminating the parental rights of the REAL parents.

I totally condemn child abuse in any way but I believe that what has been done in this case is a substitution of “supposed abuse” by the true parents to absolute abuse by the system.

"We're the legal parents of the children and we would like for them to be immunized."

Spoken like a man who does not know the delicacy of the situation he is managing. Reminiscent of the much-maligned statement of Al Haig when Regan was shot.

It also de-emphasizes the ostensible good will on the government's part to "sort out the confusion" and return as many children to parents as possible. I would say "deserving parents," but that is too wide open for interpretation.

The picture seems to be becoming more complex than any single blanket characterization initially presented. Criminal investigation and prosecution might have clarifieds what now looks like a big snarl of yarn with about 40 different, tangled leagal threads running in and out of it and people wanting to attack it as a gordian knot. There was sufficient lead time, suspicion, and resources.

Not much of a legal argument. The terms are too vague and could be used against, say, Baptists or Catholics. But it's fun to stir up the blood. Sans mob rule, we need clear criteria of criminal activity and transparent prosecution thereof. I think these are forthcoming, after a trainwreck of a start.

Will the state accept responsibility for serious side effects including death?

the “Norm” is what they want you to accept that EVERYONE without question gets vaccinated.

There are contraindications which I’m sure they will overlook NOT to give some of those vaccinations.

That is frightening, isn’t it? Sort of like Nazi Germany.

It’s one thing to say you are protecting the children. But this is part of the problem I always have with DCF. They suddenly think they are the parents, and try to forct the kids into the mold that they think kids should be in nowadays.

I’ve had friends who have had run-ins with DCF. They take kids that have been carefully kept out of a secular, liberal worldview and throw them ruthlessly in it. And they have a very arrogant view about it, with the same “we are the parents now” attitude.

And the simple fact that in Texas every parent has the right not to inject their children with toxins, aborted fetal cells, and animal DNA.

These FLDS families, like every other family, have the right not to vaccinate and the State has absolutely NO right to force it.

ANYONE who loves liberty should be absolutely horrified by this.

Except for the labor camps, ovens, gassing, shooting, mass graves, 6 million Jews killed, marching on Poland and France, I guess it is like Nazi Germany.

No, seriously, nobody ever faces a charge based on whether you call it a cult or not.

Cults that practice criminal behavior get busted.

Labeling your group a religion or a cult does not give you a pass to violate the law and when your religion involves the use of underage girls for sexual purposes then you draw the attention of the law.
