'SNL' skit goes after Clinton
The Washington Times ^ | 5-12-08 | Christian Toto

Posted on 05/12/2008 11:08:18 AM PDT by JZelle

On Feb. 23, the satirical TV show "Saturday Night Live" aired two sketches which buoyed Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. One mocked the media for what it perceived as fawning treatment of Sen. Barack Obama, while another allowed host Tina Fey to endorse Sen. Clinton from the Weekend Update desk.

Last night, "SNL" did all it could to shut down Clinton's campaign for good.

The night's opening sketch had cast member Amy Poehler playing Clinton as an admitted "sore loser" with no ethical standards who will do anything to win.

Ouch.

I thought SNL was supposed to be funny? This isn't.

We’ll see NBC and SNL’s “ethical standards” during the general election, when they fellate Obama nightly.

I thought it was great. That's the standard treatment commonly given to Republicans. Liberals using their same insane standards on the wicked witch is awesome. She usually gets kid gloves treatment like on South Park.

The article mentions the change in the show’s attitude. They were fawning over her in February.

I like the parody written and posted here yesterday better.
It used Animal House’s “it ain’t over until we decide it is”.

It would have been much funnier material for SNL to use.

Anybody remember Travelgate?

It was an early defining moment of the Clinton presidency. It played out like this.

The Clintons wanted to hand off the White House travel office work to friends.

It had been handled by career governemnt workers that had been in place since Carter, handling all presidential travel arrangements.

In someone elses hands, it could be a very lucrative govenment contract.

But to give it to friends would have looked like political cronyism.

To provide themselves cover for what would have looked bad politically, the Clintons instead trumped up charges against the travel office employees. They were accused of financial malfeasance.

After much tado, the case went to trial with Billy Dale as the primary target of the Clinton's prosecution.

Dale was acquited in very rapid form with the judge admonishing the govenment for bringing the case.

Congress recognized the assualt on Dale and others as so bad that it voted to pay the defense costs of those that were falsely accused.

Instead of taking the heat for a political move, the Clinton's found it politically expedient to step on little innocent people.

That incident alone should be every reason anyone needs to know that these people are scum.

That would have looked like cronism

I gave up on SNL in the mid 80's. Until then, it was pretty much given it was going to be on at home.

The funny went out of SNL shortly after “Buckwheat has been shot”. Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo and that crew were fairly worthy successors to Belushi, Aykroyd, Radner, etc., but after that, it’s all been downhill fast. Even the ones who have been funny after they left SNL (like Will Ferrell) weren’t funny when they were there. When “Wayne’s World” and the Church Lady are the high points of the last 15 years of your program? Yeah.

IMHO, I think that what was said was more important than whether it was funny.

SNL had Tina Fey kiss Hillary!'s butt up one side and down the other during a Weekend Update "editorial". Then, Tracy Morgan did the same thing a couple of weeks later.

I'm still waiting to see something in favor of John McCain.

I think when Tina Fey started writing for the show is when it officially hit rock bottom.

She is about as funny as an impacted tooth.

The SNL sketch portraying Hillary Clinton as a proud racist was not funny. It was so clearly a contrived and biased attack that it completely destroyed SNL’s claim to satire, political or otherwise. SNL hasn’t really been funny for over a dozen years; it just hangs on in that time slot, long after the real talent has “left the building.” That some viewers find it timely and funny tells us more about the declining standards of wit and humor than about anything SNL has to say.

Yes, I often find parodies funny (as do most people). And that’s what the piece was: a parody of Hillary Clinton.

In case you (somehow) haven’t noticed, most of the what was in that skit has been the subject of various Freeper posts since I’ve been visiting FR (> 1998). In fact, it was tame compared to much of what has been posed here—so lighten up.
